Players can choose from over ten civilisations. The game also introduces five eras of advancement: the Discovery Age, Colonial Age, Fortress Age, Industrial Age, and Imperial Age, each unlocking more powerful upgrades and units.

Game Features

Compared to the earlier games in the series, Age of Empires 3 introduces some fresh mechanics. One of the most significant is the Home City system. Each civilisation is supported by a Home City, such as London for the British or Berlin for the Germans, which can send shipments of resources or troops to help your colony grow stronger.

Another unique feature is the Politician System, which appears each time you advance to a new Age. You’ll choose from different politicians, each offering specific bonuses to support your strategy.

If you enjoy story-driven gameplay, the campaign mode includes three main scenarios. Each is presented in a separate Act and follows the story of the fictional Black family, Morgan, John, and Amelia, as they experience major events in different historical periods.

• Act I: Blood follows Morgan Black’s journey across the New World as a member of the Knights of St. John.
• Act II: Ice focuses on John Black and his ally Ká:nien as they fight against a man named Warwick.
• Act III: Steel tells the story of Amelia Black, who inherits and runs The Falcon Company, a railway business.

The expansions add even more content. In The WarChiefs, you’ll play as Nathaniel and Chayton Black in two new Acts titled Fire and Shadow.

Meanwhile, The Asian Dynasties expansion brings in new civilisations with three campaigns set in Japan, China, and India, each with its own story and playable characters.
