Deleting Messages You Sent
Accidentally sent a message you wish you hadn't? Here’s what to do:
- Open your Instagram DMs and go to the conversation where the message was sent.
- Press and hold on the message until a menu pops up.
- From the menu, choose the “Unsend” option.
This will immediately remove the message from both your account and the recipient’s.
Pretty simple, right? Stay tuned for more tips on managing Instagram messages for both Android and iOS users.
Deleting an Entire Conversation with One User
If you need to delete a conversation with someone on Instagram, here's how to do it:
- Open Instagram and head to your DMs by tapping the message icon.
- Find and tap on the profile of the user whose conversation you want to delete.
- A menu will pop up; select the “Delete” option.
- Confirm the deletion by tapping “Delete” again in the next dialog box. This will remove the entire conversation.
Note: Deleting the conversation from your side doesn't remove it from the other person's inbox. They will still be able to see the messages.
For iOS Users you can swipe left on the user’s profile in your DM list and tap the “Delete” button that appears. This simple action will delete the conversation from your account.
Deleting Conversations with Multiple Users at Once
This method requires changing your Instagram account type. If you currently have a personal or private account, you’ll need to switch to a professional account first. Here’s how to do it:
- Open your Instagram profile and tap the three-line menu in the upper right corner of the screen.
- For Android, select “Settings and privacy”; for iOS, choose “Settings and Activity.”
- Scroll down and tap on “Account type and tools.”
- Select “Switch to professional account.”
- Tap “Continue” and follow the prompts until you reach the “Display on Profile” menu. Choose the option that suits your needs, like “Editor.”
- Choose between “Business” or “Creator” and complete the account change process.
- After switching, return to your Instagram DMs and tap the list icon in the top right corner.
- Select the conversations you want to delete by tapping on each user.
- Press “Delete.” The selected conversations will be removed.
By following these steps, you can manage your messages more effectively, ensuring your chat room stays clean and your privacy protected.
