Helio G99 vs Dimensity 6100+: A Comparison
MediaTek Helio G99 and Dimensity 6100+ are two popular mid-range chipsets used in Android phones. Both are made with 6 nm technology, which helps them use less power and run more efficiently.
However, there are some important differences between them. The Helio G99 only supports 4G networks and is made mainly for budget gaming phones. The Dimensity 6100+, on the other hand, supports the newer 5G network for faster internet speeds.
Besides these two main differences, there are also other things to consider when choosing a phone with one of these chipsets. Let’s look at them below.
CPU and GPU Performance

Both the Helio G99 and Dimensity 6100+ have octa-core CPUs, which means they have eight cores. Each chipset includes two high-performance cores (Cortex-A76 at 2.2 GHz) and six power-saving cores (Cortex-A55 at 2.0 GHz). Because their design and speeds are almost the same, their CPU performance is very similar for everyday use.
For the GPU, both use the Mali-G57 MP2, so their graphics performance is also similar. However, the Helio G99 has higher memory bandwidth (34.1 GB/s compared to 17.1 GB/s) because it supports dual memory channels. This means the Helio G99 can move data faster and is great at running heavy apps or games.
Fabrication Technology and Power Efficiency
Both the Helio G99 and Dimensity 6100+ use a 6 nm fabrication process (TSMC N6). So, the tiny parts inside the chip, called transistors, are very small. Smaller transistors use less power and make the chip more energy efficient. MediaTek also says that the Helio G99 can handle long gaming sessions without getting too hot.
The Dimensity 6100+ also uses the 6 nm process but adds a feature called 5G UltraSave 3.0+ to reduce power use when connected to 5G networks. According to MediaTek, this feature makes 5G connections about 13–30% more power efficient compared to other chipsets.
That being said, phones with either of these two chips usually have good battery life. The Helio G99 might be a bit more efficient because it doesn’t include a 5G modem, while the Dimensity 6100+ balances this with its power-saving technology.
Connectivity and Network

The biggest difference between these two chipsets is in their network support. The Helio G99 only supports 4G LTE (Cat-13) and Wi-Fi 5. It can also use two 4G VoLTE SIM cards at the same time.
Meanwhile, the Dimensity 6100+ comes with a newer 5G modem (3GPP Release-16), which allows it to connect to sub-6GHz 5G networks. Its 5G download speed can reach up to 3.3 Gbps, which is much faster than 4G.
This means that phones with the Dimensity 6100+ can browse the internet, stream, and download data much faster in areas that already have 5G. But if 5G is not available, it can still switch back to 4G.
Multimedia Abilities

Both chipsets support similar multimedia features. The Helio G99 and Dimensity 6100+ can handle main cameras up to 108 megapixels. For dual cameras, both support up to 16+16 MP combinations.
In the display area, both can support Full HD+ screens with resolutions up to 2520×1080 pixels and a high refresh rate of 120 Hz. The Helio G99 can run 120 Hz displays without extra hardware and includes a Dynamic Sync feature to save battery during high refresh rates.
The Dimensity 6100+ also supports 120 Hz displays, plus 10-bit colour depth for smoother and more natural colours. So, in terms of photos, videos, and screen quality, both chipsets perform quite similarly.
Conclusion
Overall, the MediaTek Helio G99 is designed for affordable gaming phones. It supports large 108 MP cameras and 120 Hz Full HD+ displays for a better gaming and multimedia experience. Its HyperEngine 2.0 Lite feature also manages CPU and GPU resources smartly, helping games run more smoothly for longer periods.
On the other hand, the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ stands out for its fast 5G modem that offers super-speed internet and dual 5G SIM support. It also includes 5G UltraSave 3.0+ technology, which helps reduce power use when using 5G.
The Dimensity 6100+ also has an AI camera feature for better photo results with a 108 MP sensor, and the HyperEngine 3.0 Lite system that keeps your 5G, Wi-Fi, and gaming connections stable while you play.
In short, both chipsets have their strengths. If you need 5G connectivity, the Dimensity 6100+ is the better choice. But if you care more about gaming and 4G efficiency, the Helio G99 might suit you better.
