How to Change Themes on Xiaomi and POCO Phones

Xiaomi's MIUI stands out as one of the most captivating Android interfaces, highly esteemed by "Mi Fans" - the nickname given to Xiaomi phone enthusiasts - primarily due to its customizable nature. It gives users the freedom to customize settings as per their preferences.

Users can modify the size of icons and adjust the base color to align with their selected theme. Furthermore, Xiaomi phone owners can experience the convenience of a more flexible folder view for icons on the home screen, similar to iOS.

Now, we are about to present several strategies for enhancing the aesthetics of Xiaomi phones, from modifying themes and icons to icon folders. These techniques are applicable to POCO phones as well, given that most POCO models utilize a special MIUI designed specifically for POCO, which is very similar to the MIUI employed by Xiaomi phones.

Without further ado, let's explore the steps to transform the visual appeal of themes, icons, and folders for Xiaomi and POCO phones.

How to Change the Display Theme

One way to customize the look of your Xiaomi phone is by changing the theme. To do so, you first need to download the theme you want to use. You can download it from the Themes app on your Xiaomi device.

Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Open the Themes app on your Xiaomi phone.
  2. Browse and find the theme you want.
  3. Once you've found the theme, tap the "Download" button to start the download.
  4. Wait for the download to complete.
  5. To apply the theme, tap the "APPLY" button.

Wait until the installation process finishes, and once done, return to the home screen. Your Xiaomi phone's appearance will be updated to the new theme.

If you only want to apply certain elements of the theme, you can tap the Customize button next to Apply. Then, check the specific parts you want to use and press Apply.

Besides opening the app directly, you can also access the Themes app through the Settings menu. Simply go to Settings and select the Themes option.

How to Change Icon Style

Another way to customize the appearance of your Xiaomi phone is by changing the icon style. MIUI offers a feature called "Super icon" that allows you to adjust the size of icons. The available sizes are 1x1, 1x2, 2x1, and 2x2. However, this feature might not be available on all Xiaomi devices.

If this feature isn't available on your phone, you can still change the appearance of the icons by modifying their background color. This allows the icons to better match the wallpaper you're using. Here's how you can do it:

  1. Open the Settings app on your Xiaomi phone.
  2. Scroll down and select Home screen.
  3. In the Home Screen Settings, tap Icon size.
  4. Adjust the icon size according to your preference.
  5. To change the background color of the icons, select Background color.
  6. Choose your favorite background color, such as Blue, Green, Purple, Brown, or the default color.

Once you're done, go back to the home screen to see the updated icon background color. However, keep in mind that not all apps support this feature, so some apps may retain their original background color.

How to Customize Icon Folder Display

One of the interesting features of MIUI is the ability to customize the appearance of icon folders. This feature is quite appealing because it resembles the design found in iOS. The folder icon layout makes it simpler and more practical to use.

The process is easy and doesn't require you to leave the home screen. Simply press and hold an app that you want to add to a folder, and drag it over to another app. You can group three or more apps into a single folder.

Once all apps are added to the folder, press and hold the folder icon. A small window with the label Edit folder will appear at the top, you can tap it to edit. Here, you can adjust the folder's appearance and size.

For example, Regular gives the folder a traditional icon folder layout. Then there's Enlarged, which makes the three main icons larger than the others. You can tap these larger icons directly to open the app without opening the folder first.

Lastly, XXL displays all icons in the same size. This layout allows you to tap any icon directly to open the app without needing to open the folder first.

These are just a few ways to customize your Xiaomi phone’s look. MIUI offers other updates, such as dynamic widgets and the ability to place gallery photos directly on the home screen in specific sizes, similar to icons.

For reference, the Xiaomi phone used in this article is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10S. The steps mentioned here will be similar for other Xiaomi devices, as long as they are from the same family.
