5 Easy Ways to Identify the Unknown Caller
Have you ever received a call from an unknown number? For some people, this can be an uncomfortable experience. After all, we can’t be sure whether the caller is someone we know or a scammer trying to deceive us.
It gets even worse if you have an ex who hasn’t moved on—being constantly harassed by unwanted calls could disrupt your new life. That’s why it’s important to be able to identify who is calling, even if their number isn’t saved in your contacts.
Luckily, this time Carisinyal will share some effective ways to uncover the identity of a mysterious caller. Let’s dive right in!
1. GetContact App
Did you know? There’s an app that can reveal the identity of unknown phone numbers! The app is called GetContact, and it’s available for both Android and iOS devices. To use GetContact on your phone, follow these steps:

- Download the GetContact app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Open the GetContact app and grant the necessary permissions as requested on the screen.
- Log in using your Google or Facebook account, or manually enter your name and email.
- In the Recent Calls section, select the phone number you want to check.
- Next, choose the Tag option.
- On the Tag page, you will see various contact names associated with that number.
Pretty simple, right? From now on, whenever an unknown number calls your phone, a pop-up will appear displaying the caller's identity and indicating whether the number is marked as spam or not.
2. Via TrueCaller Site
Maybe your phone is currently off, but you’ve already noted down the mysterious number that keeps calling you. In that case, you can use a website called TrueCaller, which can be accessed via a PC.
Here’s how to identify a phone number using TrueCaller:

- Visit the TrueCaller website at https://truecaller.com.
- Click on the Sign In option from the menu on the left.
- Sign in quickly using your Google (Gmail) or Microsoft account.
- Once signed in, enter the unknown phone number in the search bar.
- Make sure to select the correct country code.
Next, you’ll see the caller’s profile picture, name, and/or email address—though the amount of information available varies for each number.
Using the web version of TrueCaller is indeed quick and convenient, but unfortunately, the site has a usage limit, meaning you can only perform a few searches before reaching the restriction.
3. Using "Forgot Password" Feature on Facebook

Not every number can be identified using the two methods above. But if you’re still curious about your mystery admirer, you can try using a giant social media platform—Facebook.
How does that work? Just follow these steps!
- Open the Facebook website or app.
- If you're already logged in, sign out first.
- Click or tap on Forgot Password.
- Enter the unknown phone number in the search field.
- If the number has been used to register a Facebook account, the profile picture and name of the owner will be displayed.
This method is incredibly simple, but not everyone thinks of using the Forgot Password feature on Facebook. Of course, like the other methods on this list, it’s not 100% guaranteed to work.
The reason? The phone number’s owner might not have a Facebook account or could have registered with a different number.
4. Via WhatsApp Contact
If you still haven't had any luck, you might want to try using WhatsApp, a messaging app owned by the same company as Facebook.
This method has a higher success rate compared to Facebook, as almost everyone nowadays uses WhatsApp for easy communication.

- Save the unknown number in your contacts with a random name, such as John Doe.
- Open the WhatsApp app.
- Tap the new chat button in the bottom right corner to view your WhatsApp contact list.
- If the number is registered on WhatsApp, you’ll see the contact name John Doe along with their profile picture.
From the profile picture, you can check if the person is someone you know.
There’s a high chance the number will be found on WhatsApp. However, not everyone uses their real photo as their profile picture, making it harder to identify them. So, like the other methods, this one isn’t 100% foolproof either.
5. Ask the Person Directly

Tried all the methods above but still can’t figure out who’s behind the unknown number? That can definitely be frustrating. But there’s actually one simple solution left—just ask the caller or texter directly!
If you’re feeling too paranoid to do it alone, ask a friend or family member to stay with you for support. Simply call back and politely ask, "Sorry, may I know who this is?"—then wait for their response. Hopefully, they’ll be honest, so you won’t have to keep wondering.
To make it sound more natural and less awkward, you can say that you lost all your contacts after resetting your phone. This way, if the caller happens to be a sensitive friend or relative, they won’t feel offended by your question.
These are some effective ways to identify unknown callers. Don’t let this issue drag on for too long—if you’re constantly being harassed or spammed, it could negatively impact your focus and productivity.
Also, be extra cautious if the number keeps sending SMS messages asking for credit or attempting other scams. Good luck, and stay safe!
