The Pros and Cons of vivo Y400
In July 2025, vivo officially launched the vivo Y400. This phone can be seen as the next version of the vivo Y400 4G, which came out in March 2024.
The vivo Y400 is made for people who need a phone with strong battery life and durability. Of course, it also has other strengths, as well as some weaknesses. There are several things you should look at before buying.
Pros of vivo Y400
vivo Y400 comes with several features that can be a good reason to choose this phone.
1. IP68 and IP69 certifications, able to survive under water up to 6 metres

One of the main selling points of the vivo Y400 is its toughness. The phone has both IP68 and IP69 certifications.
IP68 means the device is dustproof and can stay safe in fresh water, while IP69 gives extra protection against high-pressure water spray and hot temperatures. These standards are usually found on industrial devices, not regular phones.
There are a few cheaper phones that also have both IP68 and IP69, but vivo claims that the Y400 can be used up to 6 metres under water. This is possible because of its “waterproof three-layer flagship frame” and one-piece structure that makes the body more secure.
This makes the vivo Y400 great for taking photos in swimming pools or shallow waters without worry. To add more safety, vivo also gives it a smart “water ejection” feature that clears water from the speaker and a “moisture detection” system on the charging port. With its design and durability, the vivo Y400 is a strong choice in its class.
2. Premium design with a slim body under 200 grams

vivo Y400 shows that a budget-friendly phone can still look stylish and well-built. It is made for users who want both performance and design.
Reviewers have praised the phone for its premium look. It is only 8 mm thick and weighs less than 200 grams, which is quite thin for a phone with a 6000 mAh battery. Normally, such a big battery makes phones thicker, but vivo uses Blue Volt technology to keep the body slim.
It also comes in two colours, “Twilight Purple” and “Tropical Green,” which give it a modern and elegant look. The back panel is made of polycarbonate but designed to look like glass and resist fingerprints. The buttons and ports are placed neatly to give a clean and balanced phone design.
The camera module is also interesting. The lens is surrounded by a metallic ring that has a “dynamic light” feature. This light flashes for calls, notifications, and while using the camera. It adds a futuristic touch and makes the phone feel more interactive.
3. Long battery life with bypass charging

Another strong point of the vivo Y400 is its excellent battery life. The phone uses a large 6000 mAh battery, and because of the Blue Volt technology, it fits inside a slim body.
Based on testing from this YouTube channel, the phone lasted up to 18 hours of non-stop use. Meanwhile, DKID Media reported that under normal daily use, the vivo Y400 can last up to two full days without charging.
They also tested the phone for gaming. Playing PUBG or Mobile Legends for 30 minutes only reduced the battery by about 5%. Playing Genshin Impact, which is heavier, used up only 7% in the same amount of time.
This shows that the vivo Y400 has very efficient power management, which makes it one of the longest-lasting phones in its class.
Another plus is the bypass charging feature. This lets you use the phone for gaming or other apps while it is charging, without overheating the battery.
4. AMOLED display with 1800 nits brightness

The vivo Y400 has a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with Full HD+ resolution (1080 x 2400 pixels). It also supports a 120 Hz refresh rate for smooth visuals.
The screen brightness reaches up to 1800 nits, which means it stays clear even under bright sunlight. Combined with the AMOLED panel and high refresh rate, the display feels smooth and sharp when scrolling, watching videos, or playing games.
The screen also supports 100% DCI-P3 colour coverage, which makes colours look rich and vibrant. For eye comfort, it comes with an Eye Protection feature.
To make it tougher, vivo coats the screen with DT Star 2 Plus protection, which is said to meet military-grade standards against scratches and impacts. The AMOLED panel also allows the use of an in-display fingerprint sensor that responds quickly.
5. Loud stereo speakers with Audio Booster up to 400%

For entertainment, this phone comes with stereo speakers that produce clear and powerful sound. This is useful for watching movies, listening to music, or playing games.
Reviews show that sound effects in games like PUBG Mobile, such as gunfire and footsteps, can be heard clearly without needing earphones.
The phone also has an “Audio Booster” feature that can increase the volume up to 400% of its normal level. This is very convenient when you are in a noisy place or want to share audio with friends without using an external speaker.
6. Reliable performance with stable temperature

The vivo Y400 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 chipset, which is built with a 6 nm process. It has an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A73 performance cores (2.8 GHz) and four Cortex-A53 efficiency cores (1.9 GHz).
In testing by DKID Media, the phone reached an AnTuTu score of around 380,000. This is a solid result for a phone in this price range.
For daily use, the performance is smooth for multitasking, social media, and browsing. In gaming, the phone can run Mobile Legends at 90 FPS and PUBG Mobile at around 38 FPS, which is quite good.
What makes the performance even better is its stability. Because of the dual cooling system, the vivo Y400 keeps the temperature below 40°C, even during long gaming sessions. This means the phone is not only fast but also consistent.
7. 50 MP camera with underwater photography

The vivo Y400 has a 50 MP main camera using the Sony IMX852 sensor. This sensor helps produce sharp photos with accurate colours and good dynamic range. There is also a 2 MP depth sensor that improves portrait shots by creating a neat background blur effect.
The highlight of the camera is its ability to take photos underwater. With IP68 and IP69 certifications, you can use the camera while swimming or in shallow water, something rare in this price class.
For selfies, the phone has an 8 MP front camera. While the resolution is standard, the colour reproduction is impressive. Reviewers note that it captures natural-looking skin tones, making it reliable for selfies.
The camera experience is supported by AI features such as AI Eraser, which removes unwanted objects, and AI Photo Enhance, which improves image quality automatically. Overall, the vivo Y400 delivers a versatile camera experience with natural results and fun extra features.
Cons of vivo Y400
Even though this has many strong points, there are still some things you should think about before buying.
1. No 5G support and not the fastest in its class

The biggest drawback is that the phone does not support 5G networks. This is because it uses the Snapdragon 685 chipset, which only supports 4G.
For daily use, the performance is fine and smooth, but the lack of 5G means it is less ready for the future. Also, the Snapdragon 685 is not the most powerful chipset compared to some other phones in the same price range.
2. Selfie camera is limited

While the main camera is good, the front 8 MP camera feels a bit weak. It can capture natural skin tones, but the sharpness and detail are not as strong.
Some users also note that the beauty effect in selfie mode can look too much if you don’t adjust it manually.
3. Slower charging compared to vivo Y100 4G

The vivo Y400 supports 44W fast charging, which is decent and can fully charge the phone in about 1.5 hours. The issue is when we compare it to the vivo Y100 4G, which had 80W charging. So, in that sense, the charging speed feels like a downgrade.
Still, considering the large 6000 mAh battery, 44W charging is understandable and not really a major problem.
Conclusion
Overall, the vivo Y400 gives a lot of value at a price of around IDR 3 million. Its bright AMOLED screen, long battery life, durable body, and underwater photography are its strongest selling points.
On the other hand, it does not support 5G and its performance is not the fastest compared to other phones in the same price class. The front camera and charging speed also have some limitations.
Even so, if you are looking for a vivo phone that is tough, stylish, and long-lasting, the vivo Y400 is still a solid choice.
