How to Rename Hotspot & Bluetooth on iPhone
Enabling the hotspot feature on your iPhone is handy when you need to share your internet connection with other devices. Once activated, other devices can find your iPhone’s hotspot by searching for its SSID (network name) and entering the provided password.
To make your hotspot easier to identify, I recommend you to change it to a unique or personalized name. This will help distinguish your device from other nearby networks, especially in areas with multiple active hotspots.
In this article, Carisinyal will walk you through the simple steps to rename the hotspot on your iPhone.
Note: The hotspot name on your iPhone is the same as your device name. Therefore, changing this name will also affect your other functions, such as Bluetooth connections.
1. Go to Settings
The first step is to open the Settings app from your iPhone's home screen. This app is where you can manage all major settings and make changes to your device, including renaming it to update your hotspot name.
2. Select General
After opening Settings, scroll down and tap General. In the General menu, you’ll see the About option at the top—tap it to continue.
On the About page, you’ll find detailed information about your device, such as storage capacity, software version, and, most importantly, the device’s name. This is the name used for your hotspot and Bluetooth connections.
3. Rename Device
On the About page, you’ll see the Name field at the top. To rename your device, tap on this field and enter the new name you want for your iPhone.
After typing the new name, tap Done on the keyboard to save the changes. Your device name and hotspot name will now automatically update to reflect the new name.
As mentioned earlier, the device name not only identifies your hotspot but also appears when you connect your iPhone via Bluetooth. Therefore, it's better for you to use a recognizable name to avoid confusion with other devices.
In addition, keep it short and easy to remember so others can quickly find your hotspot. Also, avoid to use personal information such as your phone number, full name, or date of birth. Sharing personal data can pose a security risk, especially in public spaces where others may access your hotspot.
