The Pros and Cons of OPPO Reno14 5G

If the OPPO Find Series feels too expensive, the OPPO Reno Series can be the right option. OPPO always does well with this series, and OPPO Reno14 is no different. One model to look at is OPPO Reno14 5G!

As a regular version, this phone is cheaper than the Pro model. Even so, its features are not much different. You can still enjoy a stylish design, smooth screen, strong performance, good battery, and capable cameras. So, let’s see the pros and cons of OPPO Reno14 5G!

Pros of OPPO Reno14 5G

OPPO Reno14 5G starts at about US$399,00. That is less cheaper than the Pro model. Even with a lower price, this phone is still powerful in many ways. Here are some of its best points.

1. Beautiful Mermaid Body with IP68 and IP69 Certification

OPPO Reno14 5G

In my opinion, OPPO is always good with design! The older OPPO Reno13 5G came with a butterfly pattern. Now, OPPO Reno14 5G uses an Iridescent Mermaid design that gives an underwater look. The colour changes depending on the angle and light.

This design is only available in one option called Opal White. Another option, Luminous Green, is simpler with a dark green shade. Below the camera module, there is a green glow that highlights the lens.

Both colour options use Velvet Glass material. It feels smooth and soft with a matte finish. Fingerprints do not stick easily, so the phone always looks clean.

The body is thin and flat, only 7.42 mm thick and weighs 187 grams. Even though the phone has a big battery, it is still light and easy to carry in a pocket or small bag.

The phone is also dust and water resistant. With IP68 and IP69 certification, it can stay under water up to 2 metres deep for 30 minutes. You can even use it for underwater photos.

2. Bright and Sharp AMOLED Display with 120 Hz Refresh Rate

OPPO Reno14 5G

OPPO Reno14 5G has a good screen for its price. The size is 6.59 inches, which is quite small and fits people who like compact phones. Even though it is small, it still looks wide because the bezels are very thin. The screen-to-body ratio is 89.6 percent.

The panel is AMOLED, which gives bright and rich colours. It can show up to 1.07 billion colours with 100 percent DCI-P3 accuracy. The resolution is Full HD+ (1256 x 2760 pixels) with a sharp density of 460 ppi.

Using the screen feels enjoyable, whether for social media, watching videos, or gaming. This is because it supports a 120 Hz refresh rate, so animations move smoothly.

The brightness can reach 1200 nits when set to the highest level. This makes it clear to use outdoors under strong sunlight. In dark places it is still safe for the eyes because the 3840 Hz PWM feature helps reduce eye strain.

For protection, OPPO Reno14 5G uses Gorilla Glass 7i. This makes the screen more resistant to scratches and cracks, the same as the Reno13 5G.

3. Loud Stereo Speakers

OPPO Reno14 5G

OPPO Reno14 5G comes with stereo speakers. This is good because some phones in the same class still only have mono speakers.

The speaker holes are placed at the bottom and also at the top of the phone. With two speakers, the sound is louder and feels more balanced. This makes watching or playing games more fun.

The sound quality is said to be quite good. The volume can also be boosted up to 300 percent with Ultra Volume Mode. This feature is useful when you are in a noisy place and need to hear a voice note or a call clearly.

4. Complete Camera Setup for Different Conditions

OPPO Reno14 5G

OPPO Reno14 5G has a more complete camera setup than the Reno13 5G. This time, the regular model already comes with a telephoto lens. The telephoto has 50 MP resolution, f/2.8 aperture, 80 mm focal length, plus PDAF, OIS, and 3.5x optical zoom.

With this lens, photos from a distance look sharper compared to using only the main camera. The main camera itself still uses 50 MP resolution with f/1.8 aperture and Sony IMX882 sensor, the same as the older model.

It also supports PDAF and OIS to reduce shaking. There is also an 8 MP ultrawide lens (f/2.2) with autofocus, which can also work as a macro lens.

For the front, the camera has 50 MP resolution with f/2.0 aperture and autofocus. Video recording supports up to 4K 60 FPS, both on the front and back, with gyro-EIS for stable shots. The upgrade here is HDR support, which makes colors look better.

5. AI Features for Better Photos and Daily Use

OPPO Reno14 5G

As a 2025 release, OPPO Reno14 5G comes with many AI features. Some are useful for daily tasks like AI Translate, AI VoiceScribe, AI Call Translator, AI Call Summary, and AI Mind Space.

The phone also supports Google Gemini as an assistant. With this, you can quickly find information about an image on the screen, details of a song, or other content.

For photography, the Reno14 5G also keeps many AI features. One of them is AI Live Photo, which helps you choose the best frame so your photos look sharp and clear.

There are also tools to improve photo quality, such as AI Clarity Enhancer, AI Unblur, AI Reflection Remover, and AI Night Portrait. With these, the combination of good lenses and AI makes your photos more creative and alive.

6. Strong Performance with Dimensity 8350 and Big Memory

OPPO Reno14 5G

OPPO Reno14 5G runs on the Dimensity 8350 chipset, the same as the Reno13 5G. Even so, it is still powerful for its class. This chipset comes with StarSpeed Engine, a new system that boosts performance when needed but also saves power when not.

The Dimensity 8350 is built on a 4 nm process with eight CPU cores. It has one Cortex A715 prime core at 3.35 GHz, three Cortex A715 cores at 3.2 GHz, and four Cortex A510 cores at 2.2 GHz for efficiency.

For graphics, it uses the Mali G615-MC6 GPU with a 1400 MHz frequency. Based on the Nanoreview database, this chipset can reach about 1.3 million points on AnTuTu v10. This is a strong score for gaming and heavy apps.

The performance is supported by large memory. The Reno14 5G offers 8 GB or 12 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. However, there is no microSD slot, so you cannot add more storage.

7. NFC, Infrared, and In-screen Fingerprint

OPPO Reno14 5G

To give a better user experience, OPPO Reno14 5G comes with complete connectivity and sensors.

For connectivity, it has NFC (Near Field Communication). This feature can be used for digital payments, checking and topping up e-money balance, and even for toll card functions. The phone also has infrared, which allows it to act as a remote control for other electronic devices.

For security, the fingerprint scanner is placed under the screen. This is possible because the phone uses an AMOLED panel. Other models that use IPS LCD panels usually put the fingerprint sensor on the side of the body.

8. Large 6000 mAh Battery with Fast Charging

OPPO Reno14 5G

OPPO Reno14 5G comes with a large 6000 mAh battery, even though the body is thin. The battery is not Lithium-ion but Silicon Carbide (Si/C). This type has higher density and better power efficiency, so it can last longer.

OPPO says the battery can support up to 10 hours of MOBA gaming. In an emergency, charging for only 10 minutes gives more than 12 hours of call time.

For charging, the phone uses 80W SuperVOOC Flash Charge, the same as the older model. It takes about 48 minutes to fully charge, which is fast for such a big battery.

The phone also supports reverse charging, so it can be used as a power bank to charge other devices. But wireless charging is only available on the Reno14 Pro model.

OPPO Reno14 5G Cons

Despite its attractive advantages, there are still a few things to consider. Here are some of the OPPO Reno14 5G's shortcomings.

1. No Wireless Charging

OPPO Reno14 5G

OPPO Reno14 5G does not support wireless charging. Only the Pro version has this feature. This feels a bit disappointing because some other phones in the same or even lower price range already offer it. For example, Infinix Note 40 Series comes with wireless charging at a lower price.

Still, the fast charging feature is quite helpful, and the charger is already included in the box, so you do not need to buy it separately.

2. No MicroSD Slot and No 3.5 mm Audio Jack

OPPO Reno14 5G

Another weakness is the absence of a microSD slot and 3.5 mm audio jack. This means you cannot expand the memory with an external card. Luckily, the internal storage is already large enough for 2025, when apps and files keep getting bigger.

The missing audio jack can be a problem for people who prefer wired earphones, especially gamers. You can still use a converter or buy earphones with a Type-C connector, but it is less practical.

Conclusion

OPPO Reno14 5G stands out in design with its Iridescent Mermaid look that is very beautiful and eye-catching. It is also strong and water resistant, so you can even use it under water.

The body is slim but holds a large 6000 mAh battery with long endurance and fast charging. Its performance is also reliable for multitasking and gaming. The missing wireless charging and microSD slot are a pity, but they may not be a big issue for everyone.

The camera setup is complete, now even the regular model comes with a telephoto lens, something that was only on Pro models before. The sound and display quality also feel premium for a phone in its price range.
