The Pros and Cons of OPPO Reno14 F 5G

When it comes to beautifully designed smartphones, OPPO rarely disappoints. The OPPO Reno14 F 5G is no exception.

Positioned in the mid-range category, this phone serves as the successor to the Reno13 F 5G and brings several notable improvements, including a more immersive display, a larger battery, and better camera capabilities.

Launched in 2025, the Reno14 F 5G is equipped with various AI-powered features and a youthful design that seems tailored for a younger crowd. So, what makes it worth considering, and what are its downsides? Let’s break it down.

Pros of OPPO Reno14 F 5G

Just like its predecessor, the OPPO Reno14 F 5G is still sold at around $300-400. With several upgrades included, here are some of its pros:

1. Beautiful Iridescent Mermaid Design

OPPO Reno14 F 5G

As mentioned earlier, OPPO always does a great job when it comes to design! The Reno13 Series had a pretty butterfly design. Now, the Reno14 Series, including this Reno14 F 5G, uses an Iridescent Mermaid theme that looks like it's inspired by the ocean.

But this special design is only available on the Opal Blue color. The other two colors, Luminous Green and Glossy Pink, look more plain. There is something unique, though, under the camera, there’s a green light that makes the camera area stand out.

Even though the designs are different, all colors use the same material called Velvet Glass. It feels soft and smooth because of the matte finish. This material also doesn’t collect fingerprints easily, so the phone stays clean and stylish. The body is also quite slim, only about 7.69 to 7.78 mm thick, and weighs just 180 grams.

Another thing that makes this phone special is its water resistance. Like the previous model, the OPPO Reno14 F 5G is certified with IP68 and IP69. This means it can handle dust and water, even under 2 meters for up to 30 minutes. So, you can even use it for underwater photos or similar activities.

2. AMOLED Display with 120 Hz Adaptive Refresh Rate

OPPO Reno14 F 5G

The OPPO Reno14 F 5G has a relatively small screen at 6.57 inches. Even so, the display still looks great. It uses an AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1080 x 2372 pixels. The picture is sharp and the colors look vivid, so it’s nice for watching videos or playing games.

The screen supports a 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate. This feature allows the screen to adjust its speed based on your activity. Scrolling feels smoother, and the battery can last longer because the screen doesn’t always use its highest refresh rate.

For outdoor use, the brightness can reach up to 1200 nits (HBM) when set to the highest level. In very bright conditions, it may go even higher, which helps when using the phone under direct sunlight. In darker environments, the 3840 Hz PWM dimming keeps the screen easy on the eyes and reduces discomfort.

OPPO protects the screen with AGC Dragontrail DT-Star D+ glass. This material helps prevent scratches and cracks in case the phone is dropped.

3. Loud and Clear Stereo Speakers

OPPO Reno14 F 5G

This phone already comes with stereo speakers. This is a good feature to keep because some of OPPO’s cheaper models still use only one speaker.

There are speaker holes at both the top and bottom of the phone. With two speakers, the sound can be louder and more balanced. It also creates a surround effect that makes watching movies or playing games more enjoyable.

Based on some reviews, the sound quality is quite decent. The phone even has an Ultra Volume Mode that can boost the sound up to 300 percent. This is useful when you're in a noisy area and need to hear voice messages or calls more clearly.

However, this mode is best for emergency situations. Turning the volume too high can lower the sound quality. Also, the OPPO Reno14 F 5G no longer includes a 3.5 mm headphone jack. If you want to use earphones, you’ll need ones with a Type-C connector or wireless ones using Bluetooth.

4. Complete Camera Setup for Different Lighting and Situations

OPPO Reno14 F 5G

Now let’s talk about the camera! The OPPO Reno14 F 5G still has the same camera setup as before. It comes with a main camera and an ultrawide camera. The main camera uses a 50 MP Sony IMX882 sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. It also supports PDAF and OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation), so photos and videos look more stable.

The ultrawide camera still has 8 MP resolution and an f/2.2 aperture. However, the new version adds an autofocus feature that was not available in the older model. This lets the ultrawide camera take clear close-up shots, so it can now also work as a macro camera.

For the front camera, OPPO keeps the same 32 MP resolution with an f/2.0 aperture. This time, it includes autofocus to help the camera focus faster and more accurately. This feature also creates a more natural-looking blurry background when you take selfies.

Video recording stays the same. The rear camera can record up to 4K at 30 frames per second. For some resolutions, it supports both EIS (electronic stabilization) and OIS. The front camera records up to 1080p at 30 frames per second. This is still lower than the OPPO Reno14 5G, which can go up to 60 frames per second.

5. Comes with Many AI Features

OPPO Reno14 F 5G

Since this phone came out in 2025, it includes many features powered by AI (Artificial Intelligence). These features can help with everyday tasks, such as AI Translate, AI VoiceScribe, AI Call Translator, AI Call Summary, and AI Mind Space.

The OPPO Reno14 F 5G also works with Google Gemini. This assistant helps you get quick answers about what’s on your screen, such as images, text, or music that’s playing.

This phone also keeps AI features for better photo results. One of them is AI Live Photo, which helps you choose the best frame from a photo. That way, you can avoid blurry or awkward results.

Other useful features include AI Clarity Enhancer, AI Unblur, AI Reflection Remover, and AI Night Portrait. These tools help you improve photo quality in different situations. With the right lenses and these AI tools, you can take more creative and better-looking photos.

6. Complete Connectivity and Sensors

OPPO Reno14 F 5G

To give users a better experience, a phone should have full connectivity and useful sensors. The OPPO Reno14 F 5G offers both.

For example, it has a multifunctional NFC feature. NFC (Near Field Communication) lets you do things like make digital payments, check and top up e-money cards, or even use your phone as a toll card.

The fingerprint sensor is placed under the screen, made possible by the AMOLED panel. This is different from some other models or older versions that used IPS LCD screens and had the sensor on the side.

The phone also includes a hardware gyroscope. This sensor is especially helpful for games like PUBG Mobile, COD Mobile, or racing games. It makes aiming and movement more accurate by letting you tilt the phone to change the view.

7. 6000 mAh Battery with 45W Fast Charging

OPPO Reno14 F 5G

The OPPO Reno14 F 5G now comes with a bigger 6000 mAh battery. This is the same battery size as the OPPO Reno14 5G. With this larger battery, the phone is expected to last longer than before.

Based on OPPO’s claims, the phone can run for up to two days for light or moderate use. When used to play MOBA games, it can last about 10 hours. For phone calls, it can last around 7 hours more.

The fast charging speed is still the same as the previous version, which is 45 watts. Even so, this is still a good speed for a phone in this price range. A full charge is said to take around 79 minutes.

There is also a reverse charging feature. This allows the OPPO Reno14 F 5G to charge other devices like wireless earphones, smartwatches, or other small electronics.

Cons of the OPPO Reno14 F 5G

As a mid-range phone, the OPPO Reno14 F 5G still has some things you should consider before buying. This is quite normal, as even flagship phones are not perfect.

1. Still No Wireless Charging

OPPO Reno14 F 5G

One thing to note is that the OPPO Reno14 F 5G does not support wireless charging. This is a bit disappointing, especially for a phone in this price range. In the Reno14 Series, only the Pro version, the OPPO Reno14 Pro 5G, comes with this feature.

What makes it more surprising is that some cheaper phones already offer wireless charging. For example, the Infinix Note 40 Series is sold at a lower price, but almost all models in the series support this feature.

Still, some users may not mind this missing feature. At least the phone supports fast charging, and the charger is already included in the box, so you don’t need to buy it separately.

2. Decent Performance, but Not Very Competitive

OPPO Reno14 F 5G

The performance of the OPPO Reno14 F 5G is actually good. The phone already supports 5G and comes with 8 GB or 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM. The storage options are 256 GB or 512 GB with UFS 3.1. There is also a dedicated microSD card slot for more storage.

The 8/256 GB version costs around US$380, while the 12/512 GB version is priced at about US$490. In this price range, the phone competes with other models like the Samsung Galaxy A35 5G, Galaxy A55 5G, POCO F7, vivo V50 Lite 5G, and Motorola Edge 60 Fusion.

Compared to those phones, the Reno14 F 5G is a bit behind in terms of performance. The chip used in this phone is the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, which is the same one used in the older Reno13 F 5G. Although this chip is fast and supports 5G, it does not match the performance of chips used by other phones in the same price class.

Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 has eight CPU cores. It includes four Cortex-A78 cores (2.2 GHz) for performance and four Cortex-A55 cores (1.8 GHz) for efficiency. The GPU is Adreno 710. On the AnTuTu benchmark, the score is around 640,000.

In short, this chip is good for daily use, but it is not the best choice if you want the most powerful phone for the money you spend.

Conclusion

The OPPO Reno14 F 5G is mainly aimed at young users. You can tell from its eye-catching design with a shiny mermaid theme. It also has good durability, as it can survive in water. The phone feels comfortable to hold and is easy to carry around for daily use.

One of the best parts is its camera. The setup is quite complete, and it comes with useful AI features. The battery life is also impressive, with a large 6000 mAh capacity. Charging is quick too.

However, there are a few things to keep in mind. This phone does not support wireless charging, and its performance is not as strong as some other phones in the same price range. But if you don’t often play heavy games, the OPPO Reno14 F 5G is still a solid and interesting option.

So, what do you think? Would you consider getting the OPPO Reno14 F 5G?
