The Pros and Cons of Tecno Spark 40 Pro+

The Tecno Spark Series has always been known as an affordable phone line. The Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ is still part of this group, even though it is the most expensive model in the series. Its price is still low, but it offers good features that can match more expensive phones.

At a similar price, this phone has almost the same features as the Tecno Spark 40 Pro. It uses the Helio G200 chipset and also supports wireless charging. This is not common for phones in this price range. So, here are the pros and cons of the Tecno Spark 40 Pro+.

Pros of Tecno Spark 40 Pro+

The Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ has better features than other models in the series, but it still costs only $200. At this price, here are some good things about the phone:

1. Elegant Thin Curved Design

Tecno Spark 40 Pro+

The Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ is the only phone in the Spark 40 Series with a curved design. Its corners are also more rounded, so the phone looks stylish. Some people think this design looks a bit old, but the Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ still looks different from other phones in the series.

The curved body makes the phone feel thinner. Its thickness is only 6.49mm, and this makes it comfortable to hold. The curved sides also help your hand hold the phone more easily. The phone weighs only 10 grams, so it's recommended for people who travel or move a lot.

The Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ comes in four colours; Moon Titanium, Aurora White, Nebula Black, and Tundra Green. From the photos, it looks like only the Tundra Green version uses faux leather, which gives it a special look. The other colours have a matte finish.

The phone also has IP64 certification. This means it is safe from dust and small splashes of water. It can also survive if it falls from a height of 1.5 metres.

2. Curved AMOLED Display with 144 Hz Refresh Rate

Tecno Spark 40 Pro+

Let’s talk about the screen. This phone also uses a curved screen, so it looks more premium and expensive. This is one of the main differences from the Tecno Spark 40 Pro. Personally, I prefer a flat screen, but many people like the curved one because it shows more of the screen.

Other features are almost the same as the Tecno Spark 40 Pro. The screen size is 6.78 inches, and it uses a high-quality AMOLED panel. The bezels are very thin, so the screen looks wider. The screen-to-body ratio is 89.3 percent.

The resolution is also sharp. It reaches 1.5K or 1224 x 2720 pixels. For use outside, the screen can get very bright, up to 4500 nits at its peak. This helps the screen stay clear even under strong sunlight.

Another interesting feature is the 144 Hz refresh rate. This is usually found in gaming phones. It helps make scrolling and animation feel smoother. It's surprising to see this feature in a phone at this price.

The Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ also has TUV Rheinland certification. This makes the screen easier on the eyes during long use. It supports 2160 Hz PWM dimming to lower the light level, so your eyes will not get tired quickly.

3. Stereo Speakers with Dolby Atmos Support

Tecno Spark 40 Pro+

The Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ has stereo speakers with good sound quality. This phone is a good choice if you enjoy listening to music or watching movies using the phone’s speakers. The sound is quite clear and balanced. It also supports Dolby Atmos to give a better and more immersive sound.

One interesting feature is called Volume Plus. With this feature, the phone can go beyond 100 percent volume. It can reach up to 300 percent. This makes the sound much louder and useful in emergency situations, like when you get a call in a noisy place.

But if the volume goes above 100 percent, the sound quality will drop. You might not hear the details clearly, so it may not be good for enjoying music or movies. In this case, it is better to use wired earphones. The phone still has a 3.5mm audio jack. It is easy to use, and the sound feels richer and closer.

4. Powered by the Helio G200 Chipset

Tecno Spark 40 Pro+

After its first use in the Infinix Hot 60 Pro and Pro+, the Helio G200 chipset is now also used in the Tecno Spark 40 Pro+. From the name, we can guess that it is the next version after the Helio G100. This chipset is made for 4G phones in the low to middle price range.

But is the Helio G200 a big upgrade? Unfortunately, not really. Just like the Helio G100, it mainly improves camera and network features from the older Helio G99. The overall performance is almost the same.

The Helio G200 is still made with a 6 nm process, just like the two older models. Its CPU also has a similar setup, with eight cores. Two of them are Cortex A76 cores that run at 2.2 GHz for power. The other six are Cortex A55 cores that run at 2.0 GHz to save energy.

There is a small change in the GPU. It uses Mali G57 MC2 with a slightly higher speed at 1100 MHz. According to Nanoreview, the Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ with this chipset scored around 430,000 on AnTuTu v10. GSMArena got a similar score of 450,000 during their tests.

With these scores, the phone can handle multitasking and games well. You can play light to medium games like Mobile Legends, PUBG Mobile, and even Genshin Impact. You may need to adjust the graphics to keep them running smoothly.

To support performance, this phone has large memory. It comes with 8 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and either 128 GB or 256 GB of UFS storage. You can also add more space using a microSD card, because the slot is still available.

5. Tecno AI Features for Creativity, Productivity, and Efficiency

Tecno Spark 40 Pro+

In 2025, it feels incomplete if a phone does not have AI features. The Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ comes with AI features divided into three groups. These groups are made for creativity, productivity, and daily efficiency.

The first group is for creativity. Tecno calls this AI Studio. In this group, you can find features like AI Eraser 2.0, AI Image Extender, and AI Sharpness Plus. These features help improve your photos with just a few simple edits.

The second group is for productivity. It is called AI Productivity. This includes AI Writing, which can help you write, check grammar, and make summaries. There is also AI Translate that supports up to 136 languages. This is useful for people who often travel to other countries.

The third group is for daily efficiency. It is called AI Efficiency. Here, you can use Ask Ella as a smart assistant. Ella can help you with web summaries, photo editing, and directions. One more helpful tool is Circle to Search. It lets you search for information directly from what you see on your screen.

6. Good Results from the 50 MP Main Camera

Tecno Spark 40 Pro+

The main camera on the Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ has lower resolution than the older model. For example, the Tecno Spark 30 Pro had a 108 MP main camera.

Now, the Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ only has a 50 MP main camera. But the number of megapixels does not always show how good the photo is. In fact, the camera is still good and can compete with others in the same price range.

The main camera has an f/1.6 aperture and supports PDAF. This is the same as the Tecno Spark 40 Pro. The sensor used is also the same and can record videos in 2K or 1440p at 30 frames per second. One difference is that the Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ has gyro EIS to help make videos more stable.

The front camera is also the same. It has a 13 MP resolution. Also, note that the Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ only has one rear camera. It does not have an ultrawide camera, so it cannot take wide-angle photos.

7. Complete Connectivity and Sensors, with FreeLink Feature

Tecno Spark 40 Pro+

The Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ has many good features for connectivity and sensors. The fingerprint sensor is under the screen because it uses an AMOLED screen. This is different from phones that use IPS LCD screens.

It also has a gyro sensor. This sensor is useful when playing FPS games. It makes the movements feel smoother. Because it is a hardware sensor, it works fast and does not lag.

The phone also has NFC. You can use this feature from any side of the phone, in 360 degrees. It helps with digital payments, checking and adding money to e-money cards, and even using your phone as a toll card or hotel room key.

There is also an infrared blaster. This lets you use the phone as a remote control for things like TVs, air conditioners, or projectors. Another feature is FreeLink, that allows you to make calls without a phone signal, but only if the other person is nearby.

8. Long-lasting Battery with Complete Charging Features

Tecno Spark 40 Pro+

The Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ also has a good battery. It comes with a 5200 mAh battery, which is large for a phone in this price range. Even with this big battery, the phone still has a thin body at 6.49 mm. This is one thing I really like.

With this battery size, the Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ can last all day. It works well for many daily activities. You can use it for multitasking, checking social media, or even playing games without problems.

The charging speed is also fast. It supports 45W fast charging. Based on the company’s claim, it can charge fully in about 55 minutes. According to GSMArena's test, it takes 1 hour and 1 minute to reach 100%.

One thing that makes the Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ special is its 30W wireless charging. This is something you usually do not find in phones from the same series.

The phone also supports 10W reverse charging. This means you can use it to charge other devices like a smartwatch or wireless earphones. It also has a feature called ByPass Charging. With this feature, you can still play games while the phone is charging.

Cons of Tecno Spark 40 Pro+

1. No Support for 5G Network

Tecno Spark 40 Pro+

One of the main drawbacks is that the Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ does not support 5G networks. This is why it still uses a chipset for 4G only. Even though the performance is already good for multitasking and gaming at this price, the lack of 5G may be a problem for some people.

Tecno says that the phone supports a faster version of 4G, called 4.5G. This version is better than regular 4G. The download speed can reach up to 300 Mbps, which is quite good for a phone that costs around Rp3 million.

Still, the missing 5G feature could be a disadvantage. Many phones now already support 5G at the same price or even lower. Some examples include the itel P55 5G, Infinix Hot 50 5G, Samsung Galaxy M15 5G, Tecno POVA 6 Pro 5G, and iQOO Z9x.

2. No Ultrawide Camera

Tecno Spark 40 Pro+

As mentioned before, the Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ only has one working camera on the back. Even though there are three camera circles, the other two are just depth sensors and for looks.

It would be better if Tecno added an ultrawide camera instead of a depth sensor. An ultrawide camera can take photos with a wider view. You can fit more things into one photo frame.

But Tecno had to make some changes to keep the price low. This is a common reason for phones in this price range that do not have an ultrawide camera.

Conclusion

The Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ is the most advanced model in the Spark 40 Series. It is the only one with a curved body that looks elegant and premium. The body is also very thin at just 6.49 mm. Even so, the battery is large at 5200 mAh and can last a long time.

One thing that makes this phone special is the complete charging features. It supports wireless charging, which is new in the Tecno Spark Series. The Helio G200 chipset also gives better features than the other models.

Still, there are some things to think about. It does not support 5G networks, even though some phones in the same price range already do. The camera setup is also basic when compared to other phones.

So, what do you think? Is the Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ still worth buying?
