3 Best Apps for Restarting Your Android Phone

Written by Ganjar Maulana

Restarting your Android phone is something you should do regularly. It helps keep your phone running smoothly by fixing small bugs and improving performance.

For example, restarting can help resolve minor glitches in apps or the operating system. That’s why it’s often the first step in troubleshooting before moving on to more advanced fixes.

Also, if your phone starts to feel slow or unresponsive, restarting can give it a quick boost. It clears out apps using too much RAM and frees up resources that might be stuck.

Normally, restarting your phone is as simple as pressing the power button and choosing the restart option on the screen. But what if your power button is broken or not working?

No worries! You can still restart your phone without the power button by using an app. In this article, I’ll review the top 3 apps you can use to restart your Android phone.

One more thing—none of the apps mentioned here require rooting your phone, so they’re compatible with almost all modern Android devices.

1. Power Menu Shortcut – Shutdown

The first app is called Power Menu Shortcut – Shutdown, developed by evilhawk00. When you open the app for the first time, you’ll be asked to choose between two modes: “Root Mode” or “Non-Root Mode.”

If your Android phone is rooted, Root Mode is the best choice. But if your phone isn’t rooted, Non-Root Mode works just fine. I tried it on a non-rooted phone and had no issues.

To use the Non-Root Mode, you’ll need to grant accessibility permissions to the app. You’ll also need to disable the battery saver feature so the app can run smoothly in the background.

Once you’ve set up the initial settings, the app is ready to use. When you open it, you’ll see a menu similar to the one that appears when you press the power button, showing options like shutdown, restart, and more, depending on your phone’s brand.

For easy access, I suggest adding the app’s shortcut to your home screen. This way, you can open it directly without going through the app drawer.

Besides shortcuts, you can also add the app’s widget to your home screen. The cool thing is, the app offers more than just widgets for restarting and shutting down—it also has widgets for adjusting the volume and locking your screen.

Lastly, you can install this app in your Quick Tiles. This means you can swipe down the status bar and access the app quickly from there. It’s the only app on this list with this feature.

What I like about Power Menu Shortcut – Shutdown:

  • You can choose between Root or Non-Root mode
  • It offers several widgets
  • It can be added to Quick Tiles

2. Shutdown (No Root)

Next up is Shutdown (No Root). As the name suggests, this app, developed by samiadom, doesn’t require a rooted phone, so it works on almost any Android device out there.

Like the previous app, Shutdown (No Root) also needs permission to access accessibility services to function. When you first open the app, it will guide you straight to the settings for accessibility services.

Once that’s done, the app is ready to go. When you open it, you’ll see the same menu that appears when you press the power button—options like shutdown, restart, and more.

There aren’t any extra settings or displays beyond that. This app doesn’t offer widgets or Quick Tiles, so it’s perfect for those who just want a simple app to replace the power button.

What I like about Shutdown (No Root):

  • It’s super simple, just shows the same menu as pressing the power button.
  • The setup is really easy.

One thing to note about Shutdown (No Root):

  • It’s not ideal for users who want a more feature-rich app.

3. Phone Restart (No Root)

Phone Restart (No Root) is another app that works on almost all Android phones since it doesn’t require rooting. This app, developed by Pralaya, is free to use, although it does contain ads.

To get the app working properly, you’ll need to grant accessibility service permissions. What’s convenient is that the app offers a special button to help you access the accessibility menu easily.

When you open the app, you’ll see two buttons: “Go to Power Setting” and “Go to Accessibility Setting Screen.” The second button is the one you’ll use to set the necessary permissions.

The first button is the main feature of the app. When you press it, the app will bring up the same menu you’d see when pressing the power button.

What I like about Phone Restart (No Root):

  • The setup is super simple.
  • There’s a button that makes it easy to manage accessibility permissions.

One thing to note about Phone Restart (No Root):

  • You need to press the button each time to access the power menu.

So, that’s the list of apps you can use to restart your phone without the power button. There are other apps available, but they require payment, so I didn’t try them.
