10 Best Offline Adventure Games on Android

Written by Sera Serinda A

Adventure games are one of the most popular game genres. These games let you explore exciting virtual worlds without leaving your home.

In this article, I’ll share some of the best offline adventure games you can play on Android. Some are free, some are paid, and others are free to play but offer in-app purchases.

These games aren’t just about exploring. You’ll also face different missions and challenges. Some even include battles against enemies.

1. Oceanhorn

Just by looking at the screenshots, you can tell that Oceanhorn has console-quality graphics. The game tells the story of a boy whose father is missing. You will explore islands and seas, learn magic, and fight monsters.

There are many fun things to do in the game. You can go fishing, sail across the ocean, collect special items, and more.

The game has beautiful 3D graphics and a great soundtrack by Nobuo Uematsu, the same composer who worked on the Final Fantasy series. However, the controls can feel a bit stiff, especially when playing on a phone. In some parts, the character doesn’t respond smoothly.

What I like about Oceanhorn:

  • Amazing graphics like those on gaming consoles
  • Fun puzzles during the adventure
  • An emotional and interesting story

One thing to note:

  • Controls may feel heavy at times

2. The Walking Dead

If you enjoy The Walking Dead series, you should try this game. In the first season, you play as Lee Everett, a man trying to survive during a zombie outbreak. You’ll be joined by a girl named Clementine, who later becomes the main character in the second season.

You don’t have to finish the first season to enjoy the second. The first episode in each season is free, but you need to pay if you want to unlock episodes 2 to 5. The Walking Dead is a story-driven game. You’ll choose dialogues and actions that change the storyline.

There are many character conversations, quick-time actions, and choices that must be made fast, especially when zombies appear. These choices affect how the story ends, so it feels like you are part of the story. It’s almost like watching an interactive movie.

What I like about The Walking Dead:

  • Strong storytelling with great graphics
  • Excellent voice acting
  • Action moments when you fight zombies
  • Multiple endings depending on your choices

One thing to note:

  • Only a few episodes are free; you’ll need to pay for the rest through in-app purchases

3. Alto's Adventure

Alto's Adventure_

Alto's Adventure is simpler than many other offline adventure games. In this game, you play as Alto, a young man who goes on a snowboarding journey through the snowy mountains. You need to help Alto slide safely. If he falls, you will have to repeat the level and lose the coins you collected.

The game is very easy to play. You only need to tap the screen to control Alto. While playing, you will enjoy beautiful 2D visuals and calming background music. The game gives a peaceful feeling.

Alto can also do different sliding moves. These moves make the game more fun and help you earn higher scores. To get the best result, you need to perform the moves correctly and keep the right speed.

What I like about Alto’s Adventure:

  • A relaxing snowboarding adventure game
  • Simple controls with just finger taps
  • Beautiful 2D design
  • Calm and peaceful music
  • Alto’s tricks make the game more exciting

One thing to note:

  • If Alto falls, you need to watch an ad to continue the game

4. Life is Strange

Life is Strange_

Life is Strange is a narrative adventure game. The story changes depending on the choices you make. You play as Max Caulfield, a photography student who has the power to rewind time.

Max uses this power to fix mistakes and avoid bad events. For example, in one part of the game, Max sees a male student shoot someone in the school bathroom.

She then goes back in time to stop this from happening. To do that, she needs to act quickly before the shooting takes place. First, she has to get out of class by convincing her teacher to stop talking to her. Then, she must find a hammer in the bathroom and use it to hit the alarm. This will make students run away and stop the shooting from happening.

That’s just one part of Max’s journey. The story takes place in different places like school, home, parks, and the beach. There is also a mystery about a girl named Rachel Amber and a huge storm that Max sees in her dream. Max has to use her powers to solve all these problems.

The game gives you different control options to move Max. You can choose between joystick, touchpad, or tapping the screen. I personally prefer the joystick, and it works well.

What’s good about Life is Strange:

  • A story-based game where your choices matter
  • Several control options to make the game easier
  • Includes puzzles to solve
  • High-quality graphics and smooth gameplay

Things to note:

  • Since Max can rewind time, the story may feel repetitive
  • The game file is large and needs a phone with good specs
  • It may not work well on older or low-end devices

5. Grimvalor

Grimvalor is not completely free, but you can still enjoy Act 1 without paying. This game is a great choice if you enjoy action games with a touch of adventure.

You play as a soldier who is sent to investigate the fall of the Vallaris kingdom. Your mission is to find the missing king. On your journey, you will fight many monsters and strong boss enemies.

The controls are smooth and easy to use. There are buttons for jumping, dashing, and attacking. You can also use some buttons together to perform special combat skills.

The visuals are quite impressive for a mobile game. What I enjoy the most is the challenge of fighting the boss monsters. Regular enemies are easy to beat, but bosses need strategy. You must learn their attack patterns. One wrong move can cause your character to die quickly.

What I like about Grimvalor:

  • Intense action and adventure gameplay
  • Good graphics for an offline mobile game
  • Boss fights feel more challenging than normal enemy battles
  • Responsive controls with simple skill combos

One thing to note:

  • Only Act 1 is free to play

6. BADLAND

BADLAND_

BADLAND has very simple gameplay. You control a small black creature that can fly. Your goal is to move through a dark forest full of traps. There are sharp tree branches, falling logs, and obstacles that use physics like spinning wheels and moving levers. These can block your way or make you fail the level.

To play, just tap the screen to make the creature jump, or hold the screen to help it float. If you hit an obstacle, your game will stop and you have to start again from the last checkpoint.

One thing I like is how quiet the game is. There’s no background music, only sound effects from the flying creature and the traps. It feels relaxing and calm. If you go online, you can also try the multiplayer or Coop mode with your friends.

What’s good about BADLAND:

  • Easy to play with simple tap controls
  • Calming sound effects without background music
  • Can be played offline or online
  • Includes Coop and multiplayer modes

One thing to note:

  • Even from the first level, the game moves quickly, so it still feels challenging

7. Ninja Arashi

Ninja Arashi_

Ninja Arashi is an action platformer game that also has adventure elements. As the name suggests, you play as Arashi, a ninja on a mission to find Orochi, a criminal who escaped from prison. Orochi has killed Arashi’s wife and kidnapped his son.

To reach Orochi, Arashi must complete several missions. He needs to fight Orochi’s followers, collect useful items, and find scrolls that contain maps. These scrolls will guide Arashi to the next area and help him get closer to his enemy.

For an offline game, Ninja Arashi has a pretty solid concept. It may not be as advanced as online or Triple-A games, but the background music, sound effects, and simple animations work well together to create a tense and exciting experience.

What I like about Ninja Arashi:

  • Action platformer game with a sense of adventure
  • Easy-to-understand gameplay
  • Great combination of music, sound, and animation
  • Many different maps to explore
  • Simple and responsive controls

One thing to note:

  • The game might feel a bit repetitive for some players

8. Désiré

Désiré_

Désiré is a unique and simple adventure game that also challenges your thinking. You follow the story of a boy named Désiré, who must solve puzzles and complete tasks in his life.

The game starts in the year 1992. In this part, you help Désiré complete his first mission. You will need to find wood, eggs, and tools to make a wooden box and fill it with eggs. But first, let Désiré write the name of the girl he likes using a pen.

To complete this mission, you can read the instructions from a spell book that Désiré carries in his backpack. You can open the book anytime.

What I enjoy most about this game are the puzzles and the interesting story. The voice acting also adds to the overall experience. Visually, the game is very simple. Because Désiré is color blind, the game uses only black and white visuals.

Things I like about Désiré:

  • A calm adventure game with puzzles to solve
  • The story becomes deeper and explores social and personal topics
  • Presented in black and white with strong voice acting

Things to note:

  • The missions can be confusing at first
  • The game moves at a slow pace, and the controls may feel a bit unresponsive

9. Eternium

Eternium_

Eternium is another fun offline adventure game for Android. The visuals and storyline remind me of classic RPG games. The story begins in a world under attack by enemies led by a villain named Ragadam. You will face different types of enemies, but in the beginning, you’ll fight zombies.

When I played the game, I chose the Bounty Hunter character. You can also choose other characters, such as the Mage.

Right away, the game puts you in action, fighting zombies while following a short tutorial. It teaches you how to attack, use special skills, and pick up items. Everything worked well when I tried it.

Eternium runs smoothly on mid-range phones. The controls are simple. You just tap or swipe on the screen to move and fight.

Why I like Eternium:

  • An action RPG with adventure elements
  • Nice graphics and background music
  • Can be played offline once all content is downloaded
  • Easy to control with unique and responsive gameplay
  • You can choose from different character classes
  • The map size is also quite large

Things to note:

  • The game’s layout might not work well on all phones
  • Early levels feel slow and can get a bit boring

10. My Little Universe

My Little Universe_

In this game, you play as an orange-colored character who arrives on a remote island. Your goal is to build a new life from scratch. Explore the island and create different buildings. Use an axe to collect wood and other resources from nature. Don’t forget to upgrade your tools to make work easier.

While you build your world, monsters will appear and try to attack you. Use your weapons to protect yourself. And here’s a quick tip: don’t fall into the shark nest in the sea. If you do, the sharks will eat you!

The controls are very easy to understand. You move using the joystick on the screen and tap to do actions. Keep in mind, this game needs an internet connection to play, and ads will sometimes pop up. Also, if you want to get resources without collecting them yourself, you can watch ads to get them for free.

What I like about My Little Universe:

  • A crafting and building game with light adventure elements
  • Very simple controls

Things to note:

  • You can’t play offline for long
  • There are many ads during the game

So, that’s the list of some of the best offline Android adventure games you should try. All of them can be played without an internet connection. If you enjoy RPG-style games, check out more options in the “Best RPG Games” article by Carisinyal.
