Are you a true fan of hack-and-slash games? Then you shouldn’t miss the chance to play the legendary Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening on the PlayStation 2.

Originally released in 2005 in Japan and the US, this game serves as a prequel to the first Devil May Cry title. Set a decade before the events of the original game, it follows the story of Dante, a demon hunter who accepts a challenge from his brother, Vergil.

Dante’s cocky attitude and supernatural skills have made him one of the most iconic characters in the gaming world. The Devil May Cry franchise is also widely praised for its intense difficulty and satisfying gameplay mechanics.

Developed by Capcom, Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening is known for its fast-paced combat and complex combos, making it a true test of skill for players with quick reflexes.

But if you keep losing to bosses or hard enemies, don’t worry. We'll help you by sharing some cheat codes and tricks. These can help you unlock extra things and make the game easier.

Devil May Cry 3 doesn’t just offer a single game mode. There are various difficulty levels and special unlockables like costumes and alternate endings. Here’s a list of what you can unlock in Dante’s Awakening.

1. Easy Mode

Given how tough this game can be, it’s no surprise that many players look for an easier way to start. However, Easy Mode isn’t available right away. You’ll need to unlock it.

To do this, start the game on Normal Mode and die three times. After that, the option to switch to Easy Mode will become available.

In Easy Mode, enemies, including both regular demons and bosses, have 50% less health and deal half the damage they would in Normal Mode. Combo attacks also become simpler to execute, often requiring just a few button presses.

2. Hard Mode

Think Normal Mode is too easy? Then it’s time to challenge yourself with Hard Mode. Like Easy Mode, this isn’t available from the beginning.

To unlock Hard Mode, you’ll need to complete the game once on Normal Mode.

In Hard Mode, enemies have twice as much health and can inflict 125% more damage than usual. It’s a serious step up in difficulty, perfect for players looking to put their skills to the test.

3. Dante Must Die

There is one more difficulty level that is harder than Hard Mode. It is called Dante Must Die. You can unlock this mode after finishing the game on Hard Mode.

In this mode, enemies are very strong. They can also use something called Devil Trigger. This is a power-up that gives them higher defence and stronger attacks. Be ready for a real challenge!

4. Heaven or Hell

If Dante Must Die still feels too easy, you can try Heaven or Hell mode. To unlock this, you need to finish the game in Dante Must Die mode.

In this mode, everything is about one-hit kills. If enemies hit you, you die instantly. But you can also defeat them with just one hit. So be careful and quick!

5. Unlimited Devil Trigger

Finishing Dante Must Die mode gives you another reward too. You can unlock Unlimited Devil Trigger.

This means Dante, or any other character you use, can always stay in Devil Trigger mode. You will have better power, defence, and speed as long as you want.

6. Unlock Costumes and Characters

In Devil May Cry 3, you can also unlock new costumes and characters. Here is how to get them:

  • Shirtless Dante

Finish the game in Easy Mode, and you will unlock a costume where Dante has no shirt.

  • Dante from Devil May Cry 1

If you want to use the design of Dante from the first game, complete the game in Normal Mode.

  • Shirtless Dante (DMC1 style)

To get a shirtless version of the original Dante from Devil May Cry 1, finish the game in Hard Mode.

  • Legendary Dark Knight (Sparda)

If you want to play as Sparda, also called the Legendary Dark Knight, you must complete the game in Hard Mode. This is only a costume, it will not change the story or gameplay. However, you will start the game with a special sword called Yamato.

7. Unlock Everything at Once

Don’t want to spend time finishing the game in every mode? There’s a shortcut to unlock everything at once!

When you're on the title screen, hold down L1 + R1 + R2 + L2 at the same time. While holding them, rotate the left analog stick in a circle (clockwise). If you do it correctly, you will hear a voice say “Devil May Cry.” That means it worked. Easy, right?

Tips and Tricks for Playing Devil May Cry 3

Unlike some games, Devil May Cry 3 does not offer cheat codes for things like unlimited lives. However, there are still some useful tips that can make the game easier to play.

1. How to Defeat Cerberus

Cerberus is one of the toughest bosses in Devil May Cry 3, and you’ll meet him at the end of Mission 3.

You can’t defeat him just by pressing the attack button over and over. That won’t do much damage. You need a clear strategy.

First, use your handgun to break the ice on Cerberus’s head. After that, attack his arms and legs with your sword. When he falls down, that’s your chance to do your best combo. Keep repeating this process until the three-headed dog is defeated.

Once you win, Cerberus will drop a Devil Arm, a special weapon made from the power of a fallen demon.

2. Devil Arm Locations

As mentioned before, you get a Devil Arm after beating Cerberus. But there are more bosses who give you Devil Arms too.

Devil Arms give you new fighting styles, and they increase your damage and attack range. Here are some you can collect:

  • Cerberus: Found at the end of Mission 3.
  • Agni and Rudra: Beat them at the end of Mission 5.
  • Nevan: You will fight her at the end of Mission 9.
  • Beowulf: Beat him in Mission 11, then get his Devil Arm at the start of Mission 14.

3. How to Play as Player 2

Did you know you can actually play Devil May Cry 3 with two players? If you have a second controller, you can enjoy the game with a friend or sibling.

There are two chances to do this:

  • The first is when Dante can summon his shadow. Press the Start button on the second controller, and your friend can control the shadow.
  • The second is during the fight against Arkham. If you press Start on the second controller, your friend will be able to play as Vergil.

Playing together on the same screen is one of the fun parts of old-school PS2 games. In Devil May Cry 3, your friend can help you defeat enemies and enjoy the battle together.

4. Alternative Ending

Have you seen secret endings in Marvel movies? Devil May Cry 3 also has a hidden ending, and you can see it after the credits. To unlock it, you must defeat 100 enemies during the credits scene.

To make it easier, use the Kalina Ann, a rocket launcher used by the character Lady. It can attack a wide area and deal big damage.

That’s all the cheats, tips, and tricks for Devil May Cry 3. Many players say this is the hardest game in the series, but with these tips, we hope it becomes a little easier for you. Good luck, and enjoy the game!
