5 Chipsets Similar to Dimensity 8450

It is quite surprising that the MediaTek Dimensity 8450 chipset can give performance that is close to a flagship chipset. You can see this from the many reviews of the OPPO Reno 14 Pro 5G.

This is surprising because the Dimensity 8000 series usually only gives a small upgrade compared to other mid-range chipsets. So, when the OPPO Reno 14 Pro 5G was launched, I was not sure if the performance was really worth it. But the OPPO Reno 14 Pro 5G feels different. It is interesting in many ways.

Let’s talk a bit about the Dimensity 8450. On the OPPO Reno 14 Pro 5G, this chip gives great performance. It has an AnTuTu v10 score between 1.5 and 1.6 million. It is made with TSMC’s second-generation 4nm process, which helps the phone stay cool and use less power.

The chipset has an octa-core CPU, with ARM Cortex-A715 as the main core and Cortex-A510 for better power efficiency. For graphics, it uses the Mali-G620 MC6 GPU. It even supports Ray Tracing if the phone brand chooses to turn it on.

MediaTek also added a better APU (AI Processing Unit) to help with tasks that use artificial intelligence, like photo processing or virtual assistants.

The Dimensity 8450 has performance that is close to other high-end chipsets. Here are some chipsets that have similar performance:

1. Snapdragon 8s Gen 3

snapdragon 8s gen 3

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is one of the closest and most equal rivals to the Dimensity 8450. Both were launched around the same time and are made for the same type of market: sub-flagship phones.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is like a lighter version of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, but it still uses the same powerful CPU setup, including the fast Cortex-X4 main core. Because of this, both single-core and multi-core performance feel very similar in daily use.

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is strong because of Qualcomm’s well-developed system. Its Adreno GPU works very well with most Android games and keeps the frame rate stable.

Also, the Qualcomm Spectraâ„¢ ISP (image signal processor) is good at handling colors and details, which is great for mobile photography fans. The combination of strong CPU, stable GPU, and good image processing makes this chip a tough competitor.

Some phones that use Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 are the realme GT 6 and POCO F6, both with AnTuTu scores around 1.6 million. The Sharp Aquos R9 Pro also uses it, with a score of around 1.4 million.

2. Exynos 2400

Exynos 2400

The Exynos 2400 is a flagship chipset made by Samsung. It is used in the Galaxy S24 series in many countries. Even though it is a high-end chipset, its performance is quite close to the Dimensity 8450.

What makes the Exynos 2400 special is its CPU setup. It uses a ten-core CPU (also called deca-core), which is designed to handle heavy tasks more smoothly. But its biggest strength is in the graphics area.

This chipset has an Xclipse 940 GPU, which is built using AMD’s RDNA 3 technology. This lets it support ray tracing with hardware acceleration, giving more realistic lighting, shadows, and reflections in games that support this feature.

Because of this, the Exynos 2400 can sometimes give better graphics performance than the Dimensity 8450, especially when playing games with very high graphics settings.

Even though its performance is very strong, the Exynos 2400 still faces some issues with power use and heat control. When the phone gets too hot, performance can drop. But Samsung seems to be improving this in future versions.

Phones that use the Exynos 2400 include the Samsung Galaxy S24, which gets an AnTuTu score of 1.6 million, and the Samsung Galaxy S24+, which gets a score of 1.8 million.

3. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was announced by Qualcomm in November 2022. This chipset is used by many flagship phones released in 2023. Even some affordable flagship phones in 2024 still use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Its performance is surprisingly close to the Dimensity 8450. On AnTuTu, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 usually scores higher. In many cases, especially in terms of peak performance and long-term use, this chip can still slightly beat the Dimensity 8450.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is made using a 4 nm process. It has one Cortex-X3 main core running at 3.2 GHz, four high-performance cores (two Cortex-A715 and two Cortex-A710) at 2.8 GHz, and three Cortex-A510 power-saving cores at 2.0 GHz.

For graphics, it uses the Adreno 740 GPU, which runs at 680 MHz. Qualcomm also includes the X70 modem that supports 5G download speeds up to 10 Gbps and uploads up to 3.5 Gbps.

Many phones use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Some examples are the ASUS Zenfone 10, nubia Red Magic 8S Pro, iQOO 12, and ASUS ROG Phone 7. Most of these phones get AnTuTu v10 scores in the 1.5 million range.

4. Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3

snapdragon 7+ gen 3

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is a cheaper version of the Snapdragon 8 series. It is made for the upper mid-range market. This chipset is interesting because it uses the same core design as the flagship series, including the Cortex-X4 core. This gives a big performance boost compared to older Snapdragon 7 series chips.

Its performance is very close to the Dimensity 8450, although slightly below it in some tests. However, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 often does better in power efficiency, which helps with battery life.

Several phones already use this chipset. These include the OnePlus Ace 3V, Sharp Aquos R10, and realme GT Neo 6 SE. On average, these phones reach AnTuTu scores of around 1.5 million.

5. Google Tensor G3

The Google Tensor G3 is a chipset that follows a different focus. While the Dimensity 8450 and other chips try to give high benchmark scores and strong performance, the Tensor G3 is made to support machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) features.

This chipset powers special features on Google Pixel phones, such as Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and fast real-time transcription. The Tensor G3 is only used in Google Pixel phones.

Phones that use this chipset are the Google Pixel 8 and Google Pixel 8 Pro. Their AnTuTu scores are around 1.1 to 1.2 million. The main strength of this chip is not its fast cores but its TPU (Tensor Processing Unit), which is designed by Google.

The TPU helps the phone run AI tasks quickly and smoothly right on the device. This gives Pixel phones a smart and personalized experience that is different from other phones.

Because of that, the choice between Tensor G3 and Dimensity 8450 really depends on what the user wants. If you want high performance, the Dimensity 8450 is clearly better.

But if you care more about smart features, strong AI, and advanced photo tools, then a Pixel phone with Tensor G3 is the better option.
