5 Chipsets Similar to Exynos 2400 and 2400e

Written by Ananda Ganesha M

Exynos 2400 is a chipset that was released in 2024 together with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. A few months later, Samsung launched the Exynos 2400e, which came with the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE.

These two chipsets are quite similar. However, they still have some differences. One of the main differences is the speed of the Cortex X4 prime core. In the Exynos 2400e, this core runs a little slower.

The Exynos 2400 has ten CPU cores, which is more than most other chips. These include one Cortex X4 core at 3.21 GHz, five Cortex A720 cores (two at 2.9 GHz and three at 2.6 GHz), and four Cortex A520 cores at 2.0 GHz.

The Exynos 2400e has a similar layout, but the Cortex X4 core runs at only 3.11 GHz. This means the speed drop is around 5 to 10 percent. So, the performance difference between the two chips is not very large.

Both chipsets use Samsung’s 4nm process. They also share the same GPU, the Samsung Xclipse 940, which runs at 1,009 MHz.

Samsung says that the CPU performance has improved by 70 percent compared to the older Exynos 2200. The GPU, based on AMD RDNA 3, supports ray tracing. This helps make light and shadow effects look more realistic on screen.

Now the question is, what other chipsets are equal or close in performance to the Exynos 2400 and 2400e? Below is a list of chips that can compete with them.

1. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

Snapdragon 8 gen 3

Many people might guess that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is the closest rival to the Exynos 2400. This makes sense because Samsung offers both versions of the Galaxy S24 series, one with the Exynos 2400 and one with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, depending on the region.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is made using TSMC’s 4nm process and was launched in October 2023. Its CPU setup includes one Cortex X4 core at 3.3 GHz, three Cortex A720 cores at 3.15 GHz, two more Cortex A720 cores at 2.96 GHz, and two Cortex A520 cores at 2.26 GHz.

One of the newest features of this chip is support for generative AI made possible by the updated Hexagon NPU. Qualcomm says this NPU is 98 percent faster and 40 percent more power efficient than the one in Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

This NPU allows smartphones to use advanced AI features like removing objects from videos or generating images in the background.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 also includes improved ray tracing, which makes gaming graphics look better. Its Adreno 750 GPU is said to perform 50 percent better than the Adreno 740 from the previous version.

In performance tests, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 reached an AnTuTu v10 score of 2,079,542 points. This was a record-breaking result for Android phones. On Geekbench 6, it scored 2,181 points for single-core and 7,250 points for multi-core.

2. Dimensity 9300

Dimensity 9300

From MediaTek, the chipset that is most similar to the Exynos 2400 is the Dimensity 9300. This chip is also one of the strongest competitors to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Its CPU specs are impressive because all the cores are high-performance units.

Yes, that’s true. The Dimensity 9300 does not include any Cortex A5x cores, which are usually used to save power. MediaTek seems to focus fully on performance to compete with other flagship chips.

While the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was released in October 2023, the Dimensity 9300 came a month later, in November 2023. It is built using a 4nm process and includes four Cortex X4 cores (one at 3.25 GHz and three at 2.85 GHz) and four Cortex A720 cores at 2.0 GHz.

For graphics, the chip uses the ARM Immortalis G720 GPU with 12 cores. This is a small increase compared to the previous version, which had 11 cores. MediaTek claims the GPU performs 23% better than before.

One concern people may have is about its power efficiency. Other chips still include Cortex A5x cores to help save battery. Only the Dimensity 9300 removes these power-saving cores.

To answer this, MediaTek says that using Cortex A720 cores can still be efficient. The idea is that faster processing finishes tasks more quickly, and when the work is done, the cores stop working. This helps save power and extend battery life.

Like Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Exynos 2400, this chipset supports hardware-based ray tracing. The ray tracing performance is 46% better than before, while power efficiency for this feature is also improved by 40%.

The Dimensity 9300 is also strong in AI performance. It includes the APU 790, which supports generative AI and can be used for AI image creation.

For multimedia and network features, the chip supports WQHD displays at 180 Hz, 4K at 120 Hz, 5G networks with up to 7 Gbps download speed, Wi-Fi 7, and 4K HDR video recording.

In benchmark tests, Dimensity 9300 scored 2,248,162 points on AnTuTu v10. On Geekbench 6, it reached 2,221 for single-core and 7,521 for multi-core, based on reports from Nano Review.

3. Apple A17 Pro

When talking about the biggest competitor to the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, many people would say it is the iPhone 15 series, especially the Pro and Pro Max models. This is because the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max use the Apple A17 Pro chipset. This is Apple’s newest chip, released in early 2024.

The Apple A17 Pro is the first chipset in the world to use TSMC’s 3nm process. This is smaller than most Android chips, which still use 4nm. Because of the 3nm technology, the A17 Pro includes up to 19 billion transistors. That is three billion more than the Apple A16.

This chipset has six CPU cores. It uses a mix of two performance cores and four efficiency cores. These are built using the Everest and Sawtooth microarchitectures.

For graphics, it uses a new GPU called Pro Class, which is said to be 20% better than the previous one. This GPU also supports hardware-based ray tracing to make lighting in games look more realistic.

The chip also includes a powerful neural engine. Apple says it can perform up to 35 trillion operations per second. It also supports AV1 decoding to play high-quality videos more smoothly.

The A17 Pro scored 1,534,402 on AnTuTu v10. However, AnTuTu results are not directly comparable between Android and iOS. For cross-platform tests, it’s better to look at Geekbench 6. There, the A17 Pro scores around 2,930 for single-core and 7,430 for multi-core.

4. Google Tensor G3

In terms of performance, the Google Tensor G3 is not as strong as the Exynos 2400, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, or Dimensity 9300. However, it is one of the best chipsets for machine learning and AI features.

For example, I first learned about the Magic Eraser feature from Google Pixel phones. With Google Tensor G3, users can use AI to remove unwanted objects from photos or fix blurry images taken with old cameras.

This chipset is used in the Google Pixel 8 and Google Pixel 8 Pro. The AI features on these phones work directly on the device. So, the phone doesn't need to send data to a server, which helps keep your information private.

The Tensor G3 also supports natural speech and language processing. That’s why phones with this chip can show real-time captions for phone calls or voice chats.

In terms of CPU, the Google Tensor G3 has nine cores: one Cortex X3 at 2.91 GHz, four Cortex A715 cores at 2.37 GHz, and four Cortex A510 cores at 1.7 GHz.

This chip is made using Samsung’s 4nm process. Its performance is decent, with an AnTuTu v10 score of around 1,099,191. On Geekbench 6, it scores 1,762 for single-core and 4,469 for multi-core.

5. Dimensity 8450

Dimensity 8450

MediaTek Dimensity 8450 is a high-end 5G chipset. It is known for good video quality, strong AI support, and power efficiency.

This chipset uses an eight-core setup with all Cortex-A725 cores. It doesn't include small cores. It also comes with larger cache memory (L2, L3, and SLC) to improve performance. MediaTek says this chip gives 41% better multi-core performance and uses 44% less power compared to the older generation.

For graphics, it uses the Mali-G720 MC7 GPU. It supports the latest HyperEngine features to give a smoother gaming experience. The NPU 880 is combined with the Dimensity Agentic AI Engine. This allows the chip to run AI tasks like image generation (using Stable Diffusion), large language models, and AI model compression directly on the device.

For photography, the Dimensity 8450 includes the Imagiq 1080 and a Dual EIS Engine. It can record 4K HDR videos at 60 frames per second. It also supports camera sensors up to 320 MP, fast photo previews, and in-sensor zoom with 100% PDAF.

Overall, this chipset is designed for mid-to-high-end or flagship phones. It is suitable for users who want good video quality, power-saving gaming, and advanced AI features on their phone.

That’s the list of chipsets similar in performance to the Exynos 2400. Each one comes from a different brand, but all offer strong features. Hopefully, this helps you choose the right smartphone in the future.
