How to Charge Your Xiaomi Phone Quickly and Safely

The battery is often one of the most troublesome parts of a smartphone. Common issues include fast battery drain, slow charging, battery swelling, or the phone not charging at all, even when using the original charger.

These problems usually stem from poor charging habits or lack of proper battery care. Xiaomi phones are no exception. Without the right approach, they can experience similar issues over time.

Fortunately, many newer Xiaomi models now come with fast charging support, which allows the phone to power up more quickly. You can even find this feature on some low-priced models.

Still, having fast charging doesn't mean you should use your phone freely while it's plugged in. Doing so can interrupt the charging process and may reduce the efficiency or lifespan of the charger.

Fast charging is a valuable feature, especially given how much we rely on our phones daily. It shortens charging time and gets your device ready for use again much faster.

But even if your Xiaomi phone doesn’t support fast charging, there’s no need to worry. As a fellow Xiaomi user, I’ll share some practical ways to help you charge your phone more quickly while keeping the battery safe.

These tips also apply to Xiaomi phones that already support fast charging, as they can further improve performance and help maintain battery health.

I tested these methods on my Xiaomi Redmi Note 10s, which supports 33W fast charging, and I noticed the phone charged noticeably faster than usual.

1. Use the Original Charger

The first thing you should do is use the original charger that came with your phone. It's designed to match your Xiaomi device in terms of voltage, amperage, and overall performance.

Using a different brand's charger once in a while may not cause immediate harm, but frequent use can have long-term effects. If you have no choice, make sure to check the voltage and amperage printed on the charger to ensure it’s compatible with your phone.

Still, it’s always safer to stick with the original charger, even if it doesn’t support fast charging. It may take a bit longer, but it helps preserve battery life and reduces the risk of damage.

2. Charge at the Right Battery Level

Besides using the original charger, it’s also important to pay attention to when you charge your phone. Ideally, you should start charging when the battery drops to around 20 to 30 percent, rather than waiting until it completely shuts down.

Letting your battery drain all the way to 0 percent can negatively affect its long-term health and performance. On the other hand, regularly charging at a reasonable level helps extend the battery's lifespan.

It’s not just about when to start charging, but also when to stop. Unplugging the charger repeatedly in the middle of a charging cycle is best avoided, as it may interrupt the process and impact battery health.

Some people suggest unplugging the charger when the battery reaches 80 to 90 percent, while others prefer waiting until it hits 100 percent. To stay on the safe side, unplugging it at around 85 to 95 percent is a good balance. This helps keep your battery in good condition for longer use.

3. Avoid Using Your Phone While Charging

Another way to speed up charging is to avoid using your phone while it is plugged in. Leaving it idle during charging allows the process to work more efficiently.

Using your phone while it’s charging means the device is still consuming power, which slows down the overall process. Activities like watching videos, opening several apps, or listening to music all contribute to this. Playing games is especially discouraged.

If you enjoy gaming, it’s best to wait until the phone is fully charged. Using your phone for heavy tasks while charging not only makes it slower to charge but can also cause the phone to heat up, which leads to faster battery wear.

For quicker and safer charging, put your phone down and let it charge without any use. Once it’s done, you can go back to using it as usual.

4. Turn Off Mobile Data or Use Airplane Mode

As mentioned earlier, using your phone while it’s charging is not ideal. If you don’t need to stay connected during charging, turning off your mobile data can help the battery charge more quickly.

An even better option is to activate airplane mode. This completely disables all network connections on your Xiaomi phone, allowing it to charge more efficiently.

That said, this step is optional. Simply avoiding phone use during charging is usually enough. But if you want to speed things up even more, switching off mobile data or enabling airplane mode is worth trying.

5. Keep Your Phone Away from Heat Sources

It's normal for your phone to warm up during charging, especially when using a fast charger. This happens because the power being delivered to the phone is higher than usual.

Usually, the phone’s temperature will go back to normal if it’s not being used and is placed in a room with a comfortable temperature.

Still, it's important to pay attention to where you place your phone while it’s charging. Avoid soft surfaces like mattresses, pillows, or anything with thick fabric. These can trap heat and cause your phone to overheat, which may damage the battery over time.

For better heat dissipation, place your phone on a solid surface such as a table, floor, or a hardcover book. This helps keep the temperature stable and allows the charging process to work more efficiently.

6. Avoid Charging Through a PC USB Port or Power Bank

Some people charge their phones using a USB port on a computer, often because they forgot their charger or couldn’t find a nearby power outlet. While this is okay in emergencies, it’s not recommended as a regular practice.

The same goes for using a power bank. Although it’s convenient when you're on the go, relying on it too often isn't ideal for long-term battery health.

This is because the power output from PCs and power banks can be unstable and may not match what your phone is designed to handle. Over time, this can affect both charging speed and battery performance.

Whenever possible, stick with a proper wall charger. It provides more stable power, which helps the battery charge faster and stay healthier for longer.

Those are some simple and safe ways to make the charging process faster on Xiaomi phones. They’re also useful for keeping your battery in good shape for the long run. If you have any other tips or personal experiences with charging your Xiaomi phone, feel free to share them in the comments. Good luck!
