How to Check the Screen on Xiaomi & POCO Phones

Having a phone with a large screen certainly comes with its perks. Whether you're watching videos, playing games, or doing productive tasks like typing, a bigger display offers a more satisfying experience. Some phones even feature curved edges and ultra-thin bezels, making them visually appealing as well.

However, a larger screen also means a higher risk of damage—especially if the display isn’t equipped with proper protection. The most common type of screen protection is Gorilla Glass, which is also used in many Xiaomi phones.

That being said, it’s still a good idea to check your screen and touchscreen manually. Unfortunately, many Xiaomi users aren’t sure how to do this.

To help with that, the Carisinyal team has put together a guide on how to check the screen and touchscreen of your Xiaomi or POCO phone. Keep reading for the full details.

1. Checking the Physical Appearance

The easiest way to start checking your screen’s condition is by simply looking at it. This method is quick and easy, and you can do it right now.

This visual check can only reveal physical damage, such as cracks on the screen. Be sure to differentiate between cracks on the screen itself and any marks on the scratch-resistant layer.

You should also look for signs of internal damage, like black spots, bumps, or green lines, which are common in phones with AMOLED screens. These marks usually indicate an issue with the screen.

If you spot any of these signs, it’s recommended to check whether the problem could get worse over time. While this method isn’t always completely accurate, it’s a good first step before deciding to visit an official Xiaomi service center for repairs.

2. Checking via CIT (Control and Identification Toolbox)

Another way to check the condition of your screen or touchscreen is through the settings app. This method is easy to follow and doesn't require any third-party apps. However, there are a few steps to do before starting the check. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Open the Settings app on your Xiaomi phone and select the My Device menu.
  2. Then, go to Detailed Info and Specs.
  3. Press the Kernel Version option five times to access the CIT (Control and Identification Toolbox) menu.

Once you enter the CIT page, you'll find various tools to test different aspects of your device's software, including the screen. Below are some tests you can perform:

1. Checking the Touch Sensor

From the CIT home page, select the Touch Sensor menu to begin testing the touch sensor of your screen.

You’ll see a simple line display, and your task is to draw a straight line to fill the available space. If the line turns blue, it means the test was successful. Continue this process until all areas, including the diagonal lines, are filled.

If everything passes without issues, the word “Pass” will appear next to the Touch Sensor menu.

2. Checking the Display

To continue testing, select the Display option from the CIT page. During this test, the screen will display RGB (Red, Green, and Blue) colors.

Your job is to check for any inconsistencies or errors in the colors, such as dots or lines that appear in the wrong color.

If there are no issues, press the screen to change colors, and continue until the check is complete. If everything looks good, tap the Pass button. Once finished, a message will appear next to the Display menu indicating that the test has been passed.

3. Advanced Touch Sensor Test

The previous touch sensor test only involved touching a box. For a more thorough check of the touch sensor, follow these steps:

From the CIT home page, tap the three dots in the top right corner and select Additional Tools. Then, tap the Touch Sensor option to begin the more detailed test.

In this test, you’ll check the touch sensors across the entire screen. Each touch you make will be marked by a dot, and a line will follow it.

If the line stops abruptly while you're still touching the screen, it indicates a problem with that particular sensor point. If everything works fine, all sensor points will respond as expected.

Interestingly, you can even test the touch sensor with up to ten simultaneous touches. As shown in the picture, I’m using eight fingers and two fingers to take a screenshot.

However, the number of touch points depends on the phone's capabilities. Some Xiaomi phones only support three or four simultaneous touches.

These are some simple and practical ways to check the condition of the screen and touchscreen on a Xiaomi phone. The best part is that you don't need any third-party apps. Everything can be done directly through the settings app on your device.

Even though the test is just a preliminary check, it's important to do it regularly. This is especially true if you've just purchased your Xiaomi phone and it's still under warranty. If you find any issues and your phone is covered, you can claim your warranty for repairs. Good luck!
