How to Delete and Change Your TikTok Profile Photo

Written by Aris Wibowo

TikTok, like many other social media platforms, allows users to set a profile photo to make their accounts more recognizable. With many similar usernames out there, a unique profile photo can help others find the right account more easily.

Since profile photos serve as part of your online identity, it’s not surprising that many users like to change them from time to time. However, TikTok doesn’t offer a direct option to delete a profile photo once it’s been set — unlike some other platforms.

When you first create a TikTok account, you're asked to choose a username, upload a profile photo, and add some basic information.

This helps others easily identify your account. If you skip uploading a photo, TikTok assigns a default silhouette image of a human head. But once you upload a custom photo, there’s no built-in option to remove it and go back to the silhouette.

Fortunately, there’s a simple workaround: you can manually replace your current photo with an image that looks like the default silhouette. You can easily find and download similar images from the internet.

Once you’ve saved the image you want to use, follow these steps to change your TikTok profile photo:

1. Open the TikTok App

Start by opening the TikTok app on your smartphone and logging into the account where you want to change the profile photo. Tap the 'Edit profile' button, then select 'Change photo'.

You’ll see a few options. If you want to take a new selfie, choose 'Take photo'. But if you've already saved the replacement image to your gallery, choose 'Select from Gallery'.

2. Change Your Profile Photo

Since you've already prepared the image, tap 'Select from Gallery'. Browse your gallery, select the image you want, and tap the circle to mark it. Then, press 'Confirm' to continue.

Adjust the size of the photo by zooming in or out as needed. Once you’re happy with how it looks, tap 'Save'. If successful, your TikTok profile photo will now appear blank or similar to the default silhouette image.

Important Note:

Sometimes, users may encounter issues when trying to change their profile photo. This can happen if TikTok's servers are experiencing problems or downtime. In that case, try again later.

However, if your network is stable and TikTok servers are working fine but you still can't change your photo, your account might be restricted.

This could happen if TikTok suspects that your activities violate their guidelines, or if another user has reported your account. If that's the case, your ability to change your profile photo might be temporarily disabled until the issue is reviewed.

That's everything you need to know about deleting and changing your TikTok profile photo! This method works for both Android and iOS devices. Good luck!
