The Pros and Cons of Motorola Edge 60 Pro

We usually see big brands like Xiaomi, Infinix, Tecno, or Samsung competing with flagship phones by releasing their own "flagship killer" models. But this time, it's Motorola’s turn to join the race with the Motorola Edge 60 Pro!

This phone has great features in almost every area. It's a strong move from Motorola to get more attention and stand next to the top brands. Let’s look at the pros and cons of the phone below!

Pros of Motorola Edge 60 Pro

1. Premium design with vegan leather that feels good and is durable

Motorola Edge 60 Pro

The Motorola Edge 60 Pro has a design that looks similar to its "sibling", the Motorola Edge 60 Fusion. It has a quad-curve design with curves on both the front and back that's comfortable to hold.

One of the best parts of this phone is the material. All color choices use vegan leather, which gives the surface a soft texture that feels like real leather. It also feels different from other phones and is easier to hold because the surface is not shiny or slippery.

This design choice was mentioned by TechWiser in his video. He felt confident using the phone with one hand. The only downside is that the frame is still made of glossy plastic, which can easily show fingerprints even though it looks shiny.

The Motorola Edge 60 Pro comes in three color options, PANTONE Dazzling Blue, PANTONE Shadow, and PANTONE Grape.

The camera module also looks clean and simple. It blends with the back of the phone covered in vegan leather. The camera part sticks out a little and has a square shape. Inside the square, there are four circles, three for the cameras and one for the LED flash.

If you look closely, there is one extra button besides the usual power and volume buttons. This button gives quick access to Motorola's Moto AI feature. The button is only found in this model, because Moto AI is a new feature that was not in the earlier series.

The phone is not only stylish but also strong. It has two IP rating certifications, they're IP68 and IP69. These ratings mean the phone is protected from dust and can survive in water up to 1.5 meters deep for 30 minutes. It can also handle strong water pressure and very hot or cold conditions.

Besides that, the phone can survive drops from up to 1.2 meters. This is because of the MIL-STD-810H certification that has passed many tough tests used by the military.

2. Bright and Sharp OLED Screen with 120 Hz Refresh Rate

Motorola Edge 60 Pro

As mentioned earlier, the Motorola Edge 60 Pro has a quad-curved design, including on the front. This means the screen is slightly curved on all four sides, not just flat. With a size of 6.7 inches, the display feels spacious when used.

Motorola also made the bezels around the screen very thin. The screen-to-body ratio reaches 92.2 percent. It's great for watching videos or playing games.

The screen uses a P-OLED panel with a resolution of 1220 x 2712 pixels. It also supports HDR10+ and 10-bit color depth, so colors appear richer and deeper.

In terms of protection, the screen is quite strong. It uses Gorilla Glass 7i to help protect against scratches or cracks. This is especially useful for people who are often outdoors or tend to drop their phones.

For brightness, the screen can reach up to 4500 nits at its peak. This makes it easy to see even in direct sunlight. Technolobe also shared that he could still read text and see images clearly when using the phone outside in hot weather.

One common issue with phones used outdoors is overheating. However, based on Technolobe’s experience, the Motorola Edge 60 Pro didn’t feel too hot. The phone stayed warm but not too warm to the point that apps closed on their own, even when recording videos or taking pictures.

Unlike the Motorola Edge 50 Pro, which came in versions with 120 Hz and 144 Hz refresh rates, this phone only supports 120 Hz. But this is not a problem, since 120 Hz is still common in flagship phones today.

The screen still feels smooth to use. Motorola also includes an adaptive refresh rate feature that automatically adjusts based on what you are doing on the phone.

This adaptive refresh rate works well with the OLED screen. It helps the battery last longer, because the phone doesn’t need to stay at 120 Hz all the time, especially not 144 Hz.

3. Stereo Speakers with Dolby Atmos Support

Motorola Edge 60 Pro

The Motorola Edge 60 Pro has two speakers for better sound. One speaker is placed at the bottom, and the other one is in the earpiece. The sound from both speakers feels even and well-balanced.

The stereo sound gives a more immersive experience. This is even better because the phone supports Dolby Atmos. The sound feels wide and clear, similar to what you hear in a cinema. Watching movies or playing games becomes more fun with this feature.

TechWiser also shared his opinion about the sound. He said that the audio quality is good. The volume is strong, and the details are clear. This makes the phone enjoyable for watching, listening to music, or making calls.

4. Runs Android 15 with 3 Years of Upgrades and Advanced Moto AI Features

Motorola Edge 60 Pro

The Motorola Edge 60 Pro comes with the Android 15 operating system right out of the box. It uses the Motorola Hello UI as its interface. Some users might not be familiar with it unless they have used a Motorola phone before. Compared to the previous version, there are no big changes. The main difference is the addition of AI features.

Besides Gemini AI, which is already available on some other Android phones, Motorola also includes its own AI assistant called Moto AI. Just like Gemini AI, Moto AI helps answer questions quickly and easily at any time.

Moto AI can also assist you with phone-related tasks. It supports features like reading notifications, recording, copying, and summarizing text shown on the screen.

Another smart feature in the Motorola Edge 60 Pro is Smart Connect. In my opinion, this is one of the best features in this phone. It allows you to connect to other devices or monitors, control them, or transfer files more easily.

Smart Connect is not a new feature, but because of Android 15 and AI support, it works more smoothly and efficiently than before.

The Motorola Edge 60 Pro also comes with a guaranteed software upgrade. Just like the Motorola Edge 60 Fusion, this phone will receive three years of Android version updates. That means users will get updates up to Android 18.

5. Powered by Dimensity 8350 Extreme for Smooth Performance in Daily Use

Motorola Edge 60 Pro

In terms of performance, the Motorola Edge 60 Pro is powered by the Dimensity 8350 Extreme chipset. The “Extreme” part of the name seems to be more of a branding style, similar to what we often see from Xiaomi or Infinix. The actual specs are the same as the regular Dimensity 8350.

This chipset is the successor to the Dimensity 8300, which was a favorite in many upper mid-range phones. Some phones that use this newer chipset include the Xiaomi 14T, POCO X6 Pro 5G, and OPPO Reno13 5G. These are often known as flagship killers.

Compared to the Dimensity 8300, the 8350 brings slightly better performance. One of the new features is the StarSpeed Engine that replaces the HyperEngine used in the older version. This new engine improves overall hardware performance when needed and also makes the phone more power-efficient.

According to MediaTek, the StarSpeed Engine helps increase CPU performance by up to 20 percent. It also boosts GPU performance by up to 60 percent.

In terms of specs, the Dimensity 8350 is not much different from the Dimensity 8300. It uses a 4 nm process and has eight CPU cores. The GPU is a Mali G615-MC6 running at 1400 MHz.

The CPU includes one Cortex-A715 core with a top speed of 3.35 GHz. It also has three Cortex-A715 cores at 3.2 GHz and four Cortex-A510 cores at 2.2 GHz made for better power efficiency.

To support this chipset, the Motorola Edge 60 Pro offers large memory options. The RAM uses LPDDR5x and comes in either 8 GB or 12 GB. The internal storage is either 256 GB or 512 GB, and it uses fast UFS 4.0 technology.

In a test by C4ETech English, the phone reached an AnTuTu v10 score of 1,382,684 points. On GeekBench 6, it scored 1400 for single-core and 4628 for multi-core.

TechWiser also did a performance test and got an even higher AnTuTu v10 score of 1,405,655. This is almost double the score of the Motorola Edge 50 Pro that used Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and only reached 829,097 points.

The Motorola Edge 60 Pro also handles gaming well. In TechWiser’s tests, PUBG Mobile ran smoothly on Smooth graphics with Extreme frame rates (60 FPS). COD Warzone was also playable on Low graphics with a High frame rate (60 FPS).

6. Strong Camera System with Telephoto Lens Included

Motorola Edge 60 Pro

For its camera setup, the Motorola Edge 60 Pro looks ready to compete with higher-end flagship phones. It comes with three functional cameras on the back.

The first is a 50 MP main camera that uses a Sony LYT700C sensor. The sensor size is 1/1.56 inches, and it has an f/1.8 aperture. This camera includes OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) that helps reduce shake while taking pictures. It also has multi-directional PDAF to keep the focus steady.

Next is the ultrawide camera, also with a 50 MP resolution. It uses a Macro Vision lens with an f/2.0 aperture and a 120-degree field of view, which works well for landscape shots. This camera also has PDAF support, so it can be used for close-up or macro photos too.

To match flagship-level features, Motorola also added a telephoto camera. This one has 10 MP resolution and supports 3x optical zoom. The sensor size is 1/3.94 inches with an f/2.0 aperture. Just like the main camera, this one also has OIS and PDAF to help keep zoomed-in photos sharp and stable.

Overall, the camera performance is very solid. Photos still look detailed and sharp even in low-light or nighttime situations. The telephoto lens can capture clear pictures of faraway objects. For close-ups, I like the macro feature more, as the ultrawide lens works very well.

7. Has Under-Screen Fingerprint, Hardware Gyro, and NFC

Motorola Edge 60 Pro

In terms of sensors, the Motorola Edge 60 Pro feels complete. It comes with a fingerprint scanner placed under the screen. This works because the P-OLED display supports a responsive optical sensor.

It also includes a hardware gyro sensor. This kind of sensor gives better accuracy than the software version. It helps when playing games like racing or first-person shooters because it makes camera movement more natural.

The phone also supports NFC (Near Field Communication). This feature is useful for digital payments and contactless transactions. You can use it to check or top up e-money, pay tolls, or quickly connect to other devices.

8. Large 6000 mAh Si/C Battery with 90W Fast Charging and Wireless Support

Motorola Edge 60 Pro

One area where the Motorola Edge 60 Pro feels more "Pro" than the Edge 60 Fusion is its battery. This model comes with a large 6000 mAh battery, which I think gives it better battery life for everyday use.

Another thing that makes it stand out is the battery type. Instead of using a Lithium Polymer battery, it now uses a Silicon Carbon (Si/C) battery. This battery type offers higher energy density. That means the phone can stay slim while still having good power efficiency.

Even though it has a large battery, the phone still charges fast. It supports 90W fast charging, a high speed for its class. Based on tests by C4ETech English, it can charge from 0 to 100 percent in just 53 minutes. Fully charging a 6000 mAh battery in under an hour is impressive.

The phone also supports 15W wireless charging and 5W reverse charging. These features are not found on the Edge 60 Fusion, so this model feels more complete.

Still, some charging features are lower than the previous model. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro had a smaller 4500 mAh battery but supported faster 125W charging. It could fully charge in about 18 minutes.

The Edge 50 Pro also had stronger wireless and reverse charging. Its wireless charging was 50W, and reverse charging was 10W. Even though the Edge 60 Pro charges more slowly, its battery lasts much longer. For most users, that means you won’t need to charge it again until the next day.

Cons of Motorola Edge 60 Pro

No phone is completely perfect. The Motorola Edge 60 Pro is a strong flagship killer, but it still has a few things to consider. These may or may not be a big deal, depending on your needs.

1. No Audio Jack and No microSD Slot for Extra Storage

Motorola Edge 60 Pro

One of the downsides of the Motorola Edge 60 Pro is that it does not have a 3.5 mm audio jack. This makes it harder to use wired earphones. You will need a converter or earphones that use a USB Type-C connector.

If you want something easier, wireless earphones or TWS are good options. You can connect them through Bluetooth. But for people who prefer better and closer sound, using a converter with wired earphones might still be the better choice, even if it feels less practical.

Another drawback is the lack of a microSD slot. The Motorola Edge 60 Fusion still used a hybrid slot shared with the SIM card. On this phone, storage can’t be expanded at all. Still, the internal memory is already large, so for most users, this won’t be a big problem.

2. Smart Connect Feature is Good, but USB Type-C is Downgraded

Motorola Edge 60 Pro

Smart Connect is one of the best features in the Motorola Edge 60 Pro. It allows the phone to connect to other devices like laptops or PCs. You can mirror the screen or use the phone as a second display to support multitasking.

This feature is not exactly new. The older Motorola Edge 50 Pro also had it. That phone had USB Type-C 3.1 and could connect to an external display using DisplayPort 1.4. You could connect it directly to a monitor using one cable and enjoy a desktop-like experience.

On the Motorola Edge 60 Pro, however, the USB Type-C version is downgraded to version 2.0. This version does not support DisplayPort. As a result, you cannot connect it directly to a monitor using a single cable like before.

To use the Smart Connect feature on this phone, you will need to rely on extra tools like Chromecast or Miracast. This adds extra steps and makes the experience a bit less simple.

Conclusion

Motorola is not just playing it safe. With the Motorola Edge 60 Pro, the brand shows that it is ready to compete with flagship phones. This phone has a premium design that uses unique vegan leather. Its build quality is also impressive, with IP68, IP69, and MIL-STD-810H certifications that help it stand strong in tough conditions.

The camera setup is complete, including a telephoto lens usually found in flagship models. It can take different kinds of photos and videos with good results. The Dimensity 8350 Extreme chipset also plays an important role in making sure everything runs smoothly, even during heavy use.

For daily use, the 6000 mAh battery helps the phone last longer without needing frequent charging. Overall, most parts of the Motorola Edge 60 Pro perform very well.

The only downsides are the missing microSD slot and audio jack, and the downgrade on charging speed and USB Type-C version. Other than that, this phone is strong enough to go head-to-head with many flagship models on the market.
