6 Chipsets Similar to MediaTek Dimensity 8400

At the end of 2024, MediaTek introduced the Dimensity 8400 as a fresh step forward. It is the next version of the Dimensity 8300 and is designed for upper mid-range smartphones.

The Dimensity 8400 is the first chipset that uses a full set of high-performance CPU cores. All eight cores are large cores, although they run at different speeds. This setup gives it up to 41 percent better multi-core performance compared to the previous generation.

The first phone that used the Dimensity 8400 was the Xiaomi Redmi Turbo 4, which was launched in China. Outside of China, the same phone was released as the POCO X7 Pro. Both devices use the Dimensity 8400, but with the name "Ultra" added.

Xiaomi often includes the word “Ultra” in its products. For example, there were earlier models like the Dimensity 8300 Ultra and Dimensity 8200 Ultra. Most of the time, this naming is just to give a sense of exclusivity. It does not always mean there are changes in performance, such as faster clock speeds.

Back to the Dimensity 8400, it is made using TSMC’s 4 nm process and has eight CPU cores. All of them are Cortex A725. One core runs at 3.25 GHz, three others at 3 GHz, and the last four at 2.1 GHz. For graphics, it uses a Mali G720 MP7 GPU with a speed of 1300 MHz.

This chipset supports LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. It also has AI processing powered by MediaTek’s NPU 880, which is said to be faster and more efficient than before.

In terms of multimedia, the features are similar to those of the Dimensity 8300. It supports a main camera resolution of up to 320 MP, can record 4K video at 60 FPS, and works with Full HD+ displays at 180 Hz or WQHD+ at 120 Hz.

According to Nanoreview, the Dimensity 8400 reached a score of 1,612,212 on AnTuTu v10. On GeekBench 6, it got 1,571 points for single-core and 6,033 points for multi-core performance.

Now that you have a better idea of what the Dimensity 8400 can do, you might be curious about other chipsets in the same class. In this article, Carisinyal has listed several options that are close in performance to the Dimensity 8400.
